SKY Shutting Down O2 Wholesale

SKY are shutting down O2 Wholesale services by next February.

As somebody else posted on another forum, one of the best Broadband connections
I have ever had over the last several years on the O2 Wholesale equipment and Murdoch's mob stamp on it.

They can try to assimilate us, you just have to try to keep one or several steps in front of them =)

I was affected by the UKOnline shutdown with BSkyB's assimilation and resultant shutdown of it. They're getting really bad; I mean what's the point of spending all that money on these services and then shutting them down only to leave people with their own rubbish broadband. Surly they would benefit greatly if they actually used what they bought instead of their service to provide a better service.

It's like if McDonalds bought Burger King then stopped offering flame grilled whoppers.

As below......

It's true that O2 decided to shut the Wholesale network down but Sky own the kit.

Oh, well I take it back then, just going by what I read tbh in OP. Got to admit though that Burger King metaphor was pretty good though...

That is correct the equipment in the exchanges still belongs to O2 not Sky..

Kits, not sure where you got that from but it's just wrong. It's true that O2 decided to shut the Wholesale network down but Sky own the kit.

Sky will be taking over ownership and day to day operation of the LLU network

Sky will integrate the current ISAMs into their network

O2 Wholesale will become a customer of SKY with a wholesale agreement in place so that they can continue to provide wholesale services to partners as normal

To be fair Sky Broadband is a quality product. No traffic shaping, no download limits, cheap price. The support does suck and the lack of options aren't great but the quality of the network itself and Sky's investment in capacity isn't disputable. An uncapped, almost always uncongested service at up to 24Mb for less than a tenner a month certainly couldn't be called rubbish.

so far l cant complain about their fibre platform either.

"To be fair" you have no idea what I'm basing my opinion of their service on, so please don't say something like their service "couldn't be called rubbish" when you don't know what experience I've had with them - the fact I can and did call the service rubbish should be a good indicator that my time with them was far from peachy.

From what I have heard both Sky's and and Virgin's broadband services vary depending on where you live, in some areas very good, in some areas very bad.

It's the same for all providers as broadband quality depends as much upon the local hardware/infrastructure or quality of the end-users connection as it does upon the ISPs own network capacity etc. Never the less good ISPs do still tend to shine through, although even with them there's still a degree of variable risk.
