Slow BB..

Hey all,

I read a few post's before i decided to post this, and was kinda shocked to see that alot of people (in uk) are having this slow broadband problem aswell...

Anyway my query is this, when i first connected up with tiscali bb (2mb ADSL/SAGEM Modem) the first few weeks understandably where a bit slow, then after that i got a near solid 2mb speed and about 1.2mb at peek times. It was brilliant !

However, recently my average speed has significantly dropped to like 250/400 Kbps. (54 Kbps Slowest speed < That's near dial-up speeds !) There has been no significant hardware or software changes recently and i haven't moved the modem or anything. I have also tried everything that is suggested in the tiscali help pages (bar reinstalling windows) and the suggestions given from tech support over the phone. At the moment i have been told by tech support that they have "Refreshed my line" and to monitor the speed over the next few days.

I was just wondering if i might have missed something, and if there is anything else that i could try ?

ps - I was told about something called a "MAC number" and a few days ago i caught a snippet of it on the breakfast show, but what is a MAC number ?

Cheers.

Most of the bigger ISP s have followed Plusnet example of traffic managment and fair usage policy to try and stop them going bancrupt. This has resulted in many people wondering why they are getting slow speeds. If you want constant speeds all through the day find an ISP without a FUP but you will probably have to pay more £

what gets me is those ISP's who dont inform their members when adding an FUP.. when AOL put one on l only knew from here never got one email about it.. and my previous ISP technically Central Point since Fast24 bought the users (before the ezeedsl fiasco) never notified of a FUP but l never knew l was on the tiscali network.. in short if ISPs arnt up front about FUPs l reckon that we as users paying for a service should be well within our rights to cancel and or void contracts along with either free internet/refunds for lost hours of slow internet.. l got fobbed off with a "non-existent" free month with Fast24, basically because they went bust.

Someone was posting on ADSLguide that they sued their provider demon/THUS over the Thus FUP :- http://bbs.adslguide.org.uk/showfla...2929363&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=0&fpart=

Apparently demon settled out of court, although I would imagine the reasons for doing so were in major part to avoid court costs. I dare say some might be tempted to follow his example though and I did wonder if consumers might have a valid case if their ISP has specific limits but only publishes a woolly FUP.

lol well id join in if l had too against AOL :D just havent got the cash to put into something like that myself.
