Hi guys,
I am posting on behalf of a client who has recently had a lease line installed from BTNet. The has been advertised as 100MBPS. The setup consists of a device labelled up as "FBT-ORNT-11-B" and into that is plugged a Cisco Meraki router.
The problem is that we are only getting a download and upload speed of 20MBPS when we test the connect via speedtest.net. We've also tried running the same test with all of our onsite equipment unplugged and just a single device connected to the Meraki via Ethernet cable and the result is the same.
In addition, we have tried downloading a server 2016 ISO file from the Microsoft website and we are able to download at a maximum of 2.2MB/s. We've compared this to other lines (BT Infinity for example) and we are able to download there are over 7MB/s. So I am confident that 2.2MB/s is slow for what should be a 100MBPS line.
We are going round in circles with BT because they are doing throughput tests remotely - but apparently these are run to and from the Meraki router itself - and they are getting speeds of around 80MBPS - which they say is acceptable and thus they are refusing to accept that there is anything wrong. As for the speedtest.net results, they say this isn't a supported test tool for BTNet.
Despite what they have said, I am sure there is a problem here as I believe we should see faster results on speedtest.net and even if that is not showing an accurate result, we should be able to download at a faster rate than 2.2MB/s.
I am just wondering if a) anyone else has a similar setup with BTNet and if so, what speeds you are getting. b) if you guys have any advice on how I can get BT to actually listen and take some action and c) If you guys can think of any plausible explanation as to what might be causing the speed problems, and the difference in what we are seeing compared to what BT are seeing?
