Smarty sim does NOT work in some new phones[SOLVED]

((Edit: this is now solved! Using shizuku and pixel IMS non root method - Google for more details or read all post #56 in here.))

Right guys,
Just got myself a latest flagship phone, honor magic 5 pro.

And I already have a smarty unlimited sim. Unfortunately, I'm unable to get it to work on 4G or 5g despite having a three network sim that does work fine in the same phone. Done all the checks relevant, everything.

Smarty say its my handset.
Handset manufacturer say its the network.

I stumbled upon this post...

Which tells me, it's the network and not the phone. Am I right?

Double check the APN Settings are correct for the right Sim Slot and Data is switched on to the same Slot.

Yup, like I say.. Absolutely everything has been checked, reset, edited. The lot. Trust me on that one.

Smarty even suggested to use threes apn which also didn't work.

I am convinced smarty just doesn't work on the latest phones.

It's a, Huawei Device with a Snapdragon 8 Gen, there is no reason why the Phone shouldn't work, it's a Global Device.

Is the SIM activated ok Jaisunny?
I know silly question but you never know.

I registered to say I had the exact same issue, I do not know what causes this phone in particular to fail, but it would always drop back to H. I went back to 3, the problem went away instantly and suddenly I'm happily sitting on 4G again.

I had read before, don't know if it's true but from apparently, if your phone doesn't support VoLTE or hasn't been whitelisted it won't automatically connect you to 4G, don't know how true it is.

Also, it doesn't matter what APN you use, it will always drop back to H. TalkMobile has the same issue on the Magic 5 Pro.

I hope you didn't spend 2 to 3 solid days testing this and testing that. Changing this and that, ordering replacement sim cards... Etc, like I did. Absolute nightmare!!!!

It is mental to think that smarty don't know about this!

I'm also going to leave smarty for three. Sad because I'm on unlimited everything for £15 with EU roaming included. Three is £17 for the same unlimited but without roaming.

That is exactly what I spend a lot of last week doing, it drove me mad when I needed my hotspot on the move for car insurance but the internet just kept dying on me.

If you at least go to the bottom of the page, you get £30 for signing up.

Yeah, I've had my eyes on the fonehouse deal, exactly the same. Annoyingly it was £65 auto cashback not so long ago.

I have heard reports that there are some Honor phones which simply do not work with Smarty. I have a friend in another community who’s told me about this issue he’s experienced first hand. That really sucks.

Also if you click the thread embedded in my original post, Sony Xperia phones also don't work with Smarty. I'm going to assume huawei don't either.

Samsung and iphone latest phones are probably going to be the only exception with smarty. Like I say, it's not the phone. It's smarty.
It probably isn't Smarty, it will be the modem setup files that Honor have added into the firmware, and I bet they are incorrect or missing. They don't (and can't really) test every combination in every country for unlocked global devices.

Do you have the option to enable 4G calling? If not that might be the issue, there are videos on YouTube where you can get access to behind the scene settings on Honor phones for VoLTE and might be able to toggle it on. You might also be able to use the tool described here https://www.ispreview.co.uk/talk/threads/lebara-volte-vowifi-for-google-pixel.40153/#post-316175 to toggle the option.

Otherwise it may simply be you can't fix this without root access and using Qualcomm tools to modify the modem files based on ones that work from another device. Getting Honor or Smarty to take any interest in getting a problem logged with someone who will fix it, well as you are probably finding, no one wants to take responsibility.

Hope the helps.

These devices which aren't supported by Three as VoLTE devices cannot connect to 4G/5G only masts which is quite a lot of Three's masts now (notably all the PoWs). This is to prevent usable data signal but no phone calls in case of emergency (does seem a bit backward as if you had 4G you would still be able to contact other people to maintain a level of safety; but I suppose this could reflect badly on the network).

But smarty is three. And three sims work absolutely fine. Explain that?
