Smarty/Three 4G

Morning,

I have a Huawei B535-232 which has been in the cupboard for.a couple of years and thought I'd give Smarty/Three a try as Sky will begin increasing my monthly price and I am getting fed up of chasing them each time to get a discount.

These are the "Three" stats from the router. Do they look ok?

RSRQ -10.0dB
RSRP -83dBm
RSSI -55dBm
SINR 18dB
Wireless transmit power
PPusch:-4dBm PPucch:-19dBm PSrs:3dBm PPrach:-4dBm

TDD subframe ratio
SubframeAssign:0 SubframePatterns:0

Uplink mod/demod of MCS mcsUpCarrier1:22

Downlink mod/demod of MCS
mcsDownCarrier1Code0:23 mcsDownCarrier1Code1:23

As expected from Three speeds vary from single digits to max I have seen 110Mbps

Also is it because I'm using a Smarty sim CGNAT is in place even though its using the 3Internet APN?

You can enter any APN you like with Smarty lwuxb, but it's ignored and will still use its own. (mob.asm.net)

Only by being on three will you benefit by using the 3internet APN.

Thanks.

Just checked and its a slight improvement since 2019 when I last used Three.

Is the B535 still a decent router? Or should I look at something newer? No 5G that I can receive yet.

If the Smarty sim works ok for a while I may consider a longer Three contract.

Do you think I’d see any improvement in speeds especially if I’m in a congested area.

There is some on Amazon for £49 so might try and can always return easier with Amazon.
Your B535 is CAT6 and can only aggregate 2 LTE bands at once, the ZTE can aggregate 3 bands at once, it's like switching from a dual carriageway to a motorway, that extra lane makes a lot of difference.

If it's £49 on Amazon I'd pick it up from there as easier returns.

See, that makes me sad and unable to trust cacombos as there's no B32
not a case of 'trust' - a case of not enough data being provided to cacombos to build the full picture of what is capable - Hardware combos are the truest/full picture, and anything less will be a sub-set

It's going to be difficult anyway as I don't think there's ever been a published document showing what aggregation is possible for the MF286D

The ZTE MF286d seems to be a reskin of the MEiG Smart 12:

The MEiG SLM828-M has the same form factor and antenna port as the modem inside the ZTE MF286d:

Pdf can be found here and detail carrier aggregation and frequencies it is capable of.

CAT12 pdf is over here:

@dazmatic so MEiG is highly likely to be the ODM for the modem, and the modem looks like a SLM828-M and matches the specifications.

ZTE will never confirm any of this though.

MEiG roadmap here

That needs the serving eNB to use carrier aggregation. Might be worth checking which bands are used by the serving eNB and whether CA kicks in with the B535 before investing in a MF286D.

The "documentation" that came with my MF286D states that B32 is supported.
