SMTP over wireless

I seem to have hit a problem with my otherwise excellent broadband ISP (PlusNet). When I use a wireless connection from a hotel, airport lounge etc that is connected via another ISP I cannot send mail (Error 550 relay prohibited). I understand this is a spam prevention measure. It is not always easy/practical to use the hotel's ISP's mail server.

Does anyone know of a "subscription based e-mail provider with an authenticated SMTP mail server" - PlusNet's suggestion, or an ISP I can change to who will let me send mail from my hotel room over wireless broadband without having to change servers all the time. It does not need to be cheap - I am just trying to find a solution to a problem.

Thanks for any help.

Many web hosting providers will give you an authenticated SMTP server to use.

No sensible ISP will let you use their SMTP server outside their network, unless they use a pop-before-smtp vitrual authorisation.

Alternatively, there's webmail....

smtp authentication

Get someone to send you an invite for gmail
it won't cost anything I'm afraid but
they don't care who you are connecting with.
They do use smtp authentication to ensure that they
have some control over who sends mail via their smtp server.

They also use non standard ports so do read their instructions
carefully when setting up your account in your mail client.

You could use hotmail as well and I am sure there are other's amongst
the free mail providers who allow pop access without charges.

An ISP would be insane to allow relay from Non Local IP's. Unless as said, POP Before SMTP AUTH

Webmail Solution from your Email host? Nice and easy, no cost.

use Orange.Net

Orange.Net is good, providing you have a Orange mobile phone to activate the email account!

Check your email account settings in Outlook etc. tick the box that says use 3rd party to send mail. its in other settings within the email account setup area.

Plusnet is fab!
