SO wireless broadband

Anyone know anything about http://www.sobroadband.com/ this isp?

Seems good value, if you can get it, but is a wireless connecton reliable and most important is it safe.

You don't have to use a wireless router, they supply a box to plug in an ordionary wired system as well.

i have heard of them yes and have seen them in local press where i live near lenham in kent, im about 4km from where they are said to have a site in doddington, i have sent them an email today regarding whether i am in range for service as it says up to 10km from their pop, will keep you all updataed, have noticed that their postal address is c/o telibra? maybe they are a reseller?

They are part of the Telibra group, not sure if they are a reseller or not, supposed to be having a relay near me in April this year. Did mail them but it took 5 days to get a non commital reply, so C/S not looking good.

Just want to get out of BT's greedy clutches, but not frying pan into fire.

I have started to look and found that Telabria Ltd has one address on the registration of the website to the address supplied to companies house this is on hte website for Sobraodband.
Telabria Ltd.
* Queen Street

Ashford
TN25 5JU
UK
and according to companies house

TELABRIA LIMITED
1090 GALLEY DRIVE
KENT SCIENCE PARK
SITTINGBOURNE
KENT ME9 8GA

The one at Sittingbourne is the main one now, not even sure if the other one still exists.
So far they only have one main mast and have limited coverage, but are claiming to cover the s/e in due course.

But we've all heard talk before, and some of the shoestring companies have even got off the ground. But within a year folded and done a runner with the cash.

I'm interested but very wary.

Yes, I'm on it!

Signed up about a month ago for the 3mb service, and after some initial problems that have been resolved now, it works well.

I was suffering a lot of packet loss but now this has cleared up with just some fluctuations throughout the day as to be expected.

Downloads are quick compared to my 512k ADSL connection, get between 2-3000kbs depending on time of day. Gaming (when theres no packet loss problem) is fine, race in an Online league and that is very smooth, smoother than my ADSL ever was, not sure about Counterstrike but I imagine that to be the same. Pings to jolt.co.uk are about 25ms.

Installation took about an hour.

Customer Service is great, theres always someone waiting to help at the end of the line and emails/tickets have been dealt with effieciently. I did register before the service was available and they didn't reply to tell me when it was available, but this was minor.

Not sure how many people have signed up in this area of Thanet, but I've seen a few houses around with the required aerial so it's getting customers.

I think its a great service for those on the edge of the ADSL service, like our village it's perfect, and thats what the service is aimed at.

Only thing I see now though is that MaxDSL is here at a lower price, so I'm wondering if the speeds for SoBroadband will be increased in the coming months to stay competitive (not that I need anything more than 3mb!)

Any questions, just ask.

James

Thanks for the info James, I pre registered my interest but no reply as yet.
According to S/O they will be active in June of this year in my area (Medway) so fingers crossed.

Did use their ticket system to ask a question but it took them days to reply to it, after prodding with a couple of e-mails.
Then all they said was what I already knew, totally ignoring my query, so not impressed with their C/s.

But if/when they ever get here I might give them a go, just to get away from bloody BT and it's over subscribed exchange, which they do nothing about.

Dave.
