This looks like a very competitively priced service given that download/upload appears to be synchronous, and judging by their 2003 rollout map, it could potentially turn out to be my most viable means of escape from 56k hell
Their website raises a few questions though. First of all, it's being marketed as a business service - does that mean it won't be available to residential customers, particularly those who may wish to use it for that most hated of past times, online gaming? And related to that, how low is the latency likely to be? On the competition page they mention that one of satellite's weaknesses relative to wireless is the latency, but frankly even carrier pigeon-based data transfer has good latency compared to satellite.
I also note there's no mention of installation cost, which leads me to believe that it's expensive, particularly with it being a business service. And even though I appear to be within the radii of at least two transmitters on the rollout map (despite living over 10 miles outside Hampshire), I'm sure I'd fail the LOS test dismally.
Still, at least there's hope.
Edit: Just noticed that there's a dedicated SPTen forum
I think most of my questions have been answered in there, just a matter of waiting to see if and when I can actually receive the service...
