Still nothing has changed speedwise since Fast4 supposedly implemeted their 'fix' for the network troubles.

I have not had a useful reply to my tickets since 2/10/07, eight days ago. (only 1 reply in total which said
"An update for your fault Tim:

This end user no longer looks to be experiencing an intermittent connection. Please can you confirm that this is the case.

This was sent to us today from BT via EurISP; I have not 'replied' to this ticket (so it can still be replied to by management) however can you confirm if your fault is still ongoing?"

Yup, my "fault" continues..and still no reply.

This is the speed i should be getting:

But this is what i am actually getting: (my bt profile claims im on a 6.5MB profile)

Date 08/10/07 19:20:38
Speed Down 1760.78 Kbps ( 1.7 Mbps )
Speed Up 365.88 Kbps ( 0.4 Mbps )
Port 80
Server speedtest1.adslguide.org.uk

Ping spikes still there also as you can see in the 'worst' column of data.

It is as if im being limited tonight to 1.5MB instead of 6.5MB :s Im not implying that i am being.. i have spoken at length with Fast4 about this and they say they dont know why i get these crap speeds.. :s I need to keep testing it seems.

BT speedtest:

The IP address discovered on the network associated with your telephone number:02xxxxxxxxxxx, did not match the one we have logged from this browser/connection. Please check your telephone number and try again. If problem persists please contact your CP.

i dont get this... my IP addy has not changed..

yep, i had input the correct phone number....

2nd and 3rd times:
The system is currently busy. Please try again shortly, however if this problem persists, raise the issue with your service provider'

Date 11/10/07 20:39:14
Speed Down 1445.75 Kbps ( 1.4 Mbps )
Speed Up 363.87 Kbps ( 0.4 Mbps )
Port 8095
Server speedtest1.adslguide.org.uk

On the plus side, latencies have improved a lot which means i can at last game online again.

Would rebooting your modem help? Would that update your IP to the most recent one on the network?

I have a static ip addy, it hasnt changed.. rebooted router anyway, speeds still the same poor at about 1.4MB

Tried BTspeedtest again, 3 different times:

It worked for me no problem, using Flock. It was a tad slow compared to previous times though.

Meh, Fast4 dropped PPP auth for me at 2am for at least an hour if not more.

Now, i still cant btspeedtest, even though pasting directly from my router username field.

edit - I tried rebooting router with PPPoA which is what we are told to use...however i can not get PPP auth with that..it synchs but doesnt auth... so i must use PPPoE..

tried one more at speedtest.net... just lol...i guess it may finish in a couple of hours heh.

I get that message from BT speedtester too sometimes Pistoleer.

I even got a strange one off BT tester when logged ito it direct, which basically said go away & log in via your ISP, but that seems to have been a 1-off.

I guess a lot of customers are using the BT speedtester now, because I'm starting to get the "busy...go away" message most of the time.

I also have to use PPPoE. I was advised to do so by a guy I used to work with. On his local exchange PPPoA does not actually work at all. Using PPPoA the connection used to keep dropping (even during the early days of F4) and ....more significantly.... would take up to 5 mins to re-connect to F4. Using PPPoE from here made the connection reliable, and authentication within a couple of secs.

I don't really understand why this should be so because the PPPoE or A is just the link from me to my local exchange, surely? Can't see how it would make any difference down at F4 end. Maybe my router is at fault.

Anyway, over recent days I tried PPPoA again & it does now seem to work just as well as PPPoE ........ although "just as well" is a relative term at present :)

LOVE the speedtest graphic.

LOL, you should have got a screen shot of it doing that while the Fast4 "not fast enough" ad was showing  (or posted a utube vid)

EDIT: "posted a utube vid" with that throughput! I must think before typing

lol Mel! I left it running when i went to work today.. who knows it may still be :p Ill have to remember to video it next time, with the ads indeed *chuckles*

Ah djreynolds's, cheers for sharing that. Hmm.. a slight update..Fast4 say that they see "port error" messages from my log last night as to why i was getting disconnected.. dont know what that might mean though. Ill see what its doing or not doing when i get home later.

port error? you mean they said port drops? every time l had disconnections EurISP told me they were port drops which meant it was something to do with my router.. havent really found much information that says its wrong or right assumption tho.
