Speeds

What sort of speed do people get with starlink? With ee mobile i get around 90 downnand 10 up where i am.
It really depends but after using 40GB, you will be on low proirity. So then you should be getting double digit speeds not 100+. You're likely getting better off with a mobile data SIM and router

I was using a French roaming plan and it was 150-300 mbit "most" of the time

Sorry? After 40GB? Is that on a priority plan?

The fixed plan got me 150-300Mbps when I used it - and it was my primary source of internet for quite a while, and that was at 1-1.5TB a month.

I typically get 150-350 Mbps. The speeds vary minute by minute, which is just the nature of Satellite broadband i think.

The deprioritised data just means they can slow your speeds down during peak periods, and that will likely depend on how congested your area is. I dont think im in a high demand area, so i havent noticed any slow downs being on depriority data.

Turned mine back on last week as the Starlink has better peak upload than the 5G or my DSL (It's highly variable though)

Download speeds seem to vary from anywhere between 20-350Mbit it's Usually above 100Mbit/s but not always.

I'm not sure how much of the variance is load and how much of it is the fact the satellites are whizzing by overhead, and you are switching sat every few seconds (I think it's around 30s maybe less?)

Had a couple of installers round to quote for the bungalow, £660! Is that usual

These are pretty plug and play, not hard to install. As long as your starlink dish has a clear view of the sky, it doesnt matter where you put it. Use the phone app and you can check for obstructions.

We have ours secured in the garden on some rebar. If you want to put it on top of your house, you can ofcourse. You just need a mounting kit and then a way to bring the cable into your house.

Try asking a local Independent satellite TV installer, that's how I got my GEN1 dish mounted to the house a few years back.

If they're used to dealing with motorised dishes for people who want to switch TV satellites they'll probably have no issues mounting a starlink dish.
