Starlink Congestion Charge!

With my 4G BB contract coming to an end I thought I'd entertain getting Starlink, but it seems my (very rural*) area lacks capacity as they now charge an unspecified "congestion charge". I presume the amount due pops up on order completion. Anyone know how much?

I should add my post code covers about 0.5 mile^2 and the population is very low. On top of that other postcodes in the area are of similar size and of roughly similar population density (very low). In fact the three immediate parishes in total have about 200 people.

I have just checked my home postcode which is a small town with multiple full fibre options

It's also showing a congestion charge on the final screen this is £75

Cheers. Thanks for working through the purchase screens. Think I may stick with 4G for now then and see what Scancom offers there are.

tried it at one rural address where everyone has access to FTTC or FTTP, congestion charge. tried it at a more urban location where there is OR FTTP and two altnets, congestion charge.

quite a turnaround from a couple of years ago, where they were basically begging you to take the service with deep discounts compared to what they were charging in the US. I doubt it's due to actual demand though.

I suspect it's just not a profitable as the Musk brigade claims it is - after all, if someone is desperate for service, what does a one time fee do to alleviate congestion? Wouldn't it be more appropriate to put new users on a lower priority level?

He's got to find a way to pay all the fines to Brazil's court, and pay off the huge amount of debt he's generating for his useless trash pit of a site that used to be called Twitter, somehow considering the only people buying checkmarks there are a small number of bots. ;)

Anyhow, Starlink was a great idea to begin with, but I think the last 4-5 years have shown that, even though it is capable of providing high speed internet to the most rural of locations and its obviously an important aspect of providing such internet service to those areas which will probably never get full fibre broadband, its controlled at the literal whim of its owner.

They may well be calling it a congestion charge now but £75.00 per month is the standard residential charge for the Starlink service in the UK, and has been, since it was reduced, from £89.00 per month, in September 2022.

I think they are also charging a £75 one off On top of the £75 for the first month but the site is clear as mud about it.
