HI All

New member here so forgive the ignorance.

Im looking for a Mobile broadband solution for our static caravan in st osyths essex CO16 8TB, looking at the mobile coverage map (below) a three sim would be the best option for a 5G router

Have i understood this right or would EE be just as good as an option ?

Im only looking to work from there and stream some TV so dont need 100mg DL speeds but i dont want to be putting up antennas

What would be the best mobile router to use for this purpose that's under the Β£200 mark

Put your post code in www.bidb.uk , it'll give you an overview.

EE seems to have the best signal, but your main problem is that you are in a caravan park, many others will be doing a similar thing, choking the mobile data.

Before committing I'd strongly suggest you get some payg SIM from 1pmobile so you can test EE, Smarty so you can test Three and not sure which to recommend for O2 which also seem to advertise 5G there.

Once you get these, test speeds thoroughly in a 5G phone, especially at peak times, once you are happy with your tests then think of getting a router again.

Looking on Cellmapper it appears most operators are present on a site to the East of the park, Three may on a separate site nearby if not the same one as the others.

Three has all their 4G bands present which often also means 5G is available. However the limited mapping for them around the park shows a lot of red patches, suggesting a weak service. Could be worth trying, but Three are often congested around holiday parks.

The mapping for EE in the area is a lot more comprehensive and shows pretty strong signal, however that doesn't mean the site is uncongested. However they would be my personal fallback option if Three doesn't work out.

Out of VF and O2 it's a bit more difficult as VF hasn't been mapped in the area since 2022. O2 (last updated earlier this year) shows they have multiple 4G bands available including B40 which tends to give a big uplift to speeds.

VF is mapped as only having their basic B20 service available, but I'm inclined to say B1 and maybe B8 are also present as those usually get added when O2 upgrades their own service.

As mentioned above, best to try PAYG sims and experiment. Could be worth trying Three first, the unpredictability of their network means you might get lucky.
