Stop Sell'

I live in an "Stop Sell' area Ranmoor Telephone Exchange Sheffield. My contract with Plusnet finishes on 3rd July 2023. If I renew my contract will I lose my home telephone service? Or does the "Stop Sell' only apply to new contracts?

I'm assuming you are on FTTC, If you are just renewing your contract then nothing should change - Stop Sell only applies to new customer so if you change provider then they wont be able to offer phone service unless they support Digital Voice

Just for the avoidance of confusion, "Digital Voice" is BT's branding for an IP based voice (VoIP) phone solution. But other ISPs do offer similar products and often call it something different or merely continue describing it just as a phone service.

Hi,

Ranmoor is a FTTP Priority Exchange Stop Sell area. This means that if you have FTTP available to you then you will only be able to order a product that is delivered via FTTP.

I'm guessing that your contract with Plusnet doesn't finish on 3rd July but simply that that is the point where the fixed term ends and you are able to seek out a new deal.

If you have FTTP available to you then your choice is to either stick with Plusnet (presumably on ADSL or FTTC, whatever you have now - if that doesn't change then there is no new order for Openreach for them to reject) or enter into a new contract provided via FTTP (either with Plusnet or someone else).

If you don't have FTTP available to you then nothing has changed and you can order an ADSL or FTTC based service from whoever you like.

In both cases you also have the option of moving to someone who doesn't use Openreach to provide a service, if there is anyone in the area.

If you are considering moving to FTTP then I would get the FTTP service installed before you cease the Plusnet service and then port your number to a VOIP provider (which will cease the Plusnet service) - there will some cost overlap but it will be the most reliable way of retaining your number.

Not just BT - the likes of Zen and TalkTalk are calling it that now, I think a few others like Vodafone are too

I would say "Digital Voice" is a more consumer friendly way to say VoIP
