Strange SMS from Three

Got the following SMS in the inbox of my router which I only noticed today:

Hi there, it's Three. You've started a new billing cycle - so your data roaming limit of $45 has been refreshed. This amount excludes VAT, where it applies. Any questions? Get in touch: three.co.uk/contact-us
1) This is a rolling 24M contract I've had for probably 4 years now, so I have no idea why I've started a "new" billing cycle.
2) I pay via Direct Debit in £ GBP so why it's in USD $ I have no idea.
3) I have always had and appears like I still do have a zero spending cap. I was very careful to enable this spending cap and set it to zero when I set-up the SIM.
4) The SIM is in a router, firmly attached to a radio mast/tower and hasn't moved in months, bar me taking it down now and again in good weather to check for wind damage and make sure the cables are secured with cable ties.

What on earth is this about? Contacted Three customer service who was talking absolute rubbish and tried to tell me that Northern Ireland is not in the UK and I needed to take the SIM back to UK to use my UK allowances 🤪

You didn’t say but I will take it that you are in NI and this is your account address.

Data roaming charges are not counted in the spending cap. You can put your three account as not roaming to make sure it won’t be charged. As it’s possible that your nearest or strongest tower is in the Republic, you could be roaming unintentionally.

But would Three charge you for data in those circumstances? Look at your contract and the website to see how they treat roaming in the Republic. The link below shows that if you inadvertently roam, you won’t be charged the daily charge and won’t have a 12gb limit placed on your included data.

in my experience, roaming charges are included in the cap.

This still applies in ROI.
Was there in late 2022 and didn't get charged £2 to roam but the 12GB was still present.

I see you are right. Although it doesn’t affect the OP as he is not in the Republic with his router.

The charge counts towards your Spend Cap, so if that’s set at zero, you won’t be able to use your UK allowances in Go Roam destinations.
