Suppressed Phorm Survey and Article, 2009 - Wikileaks

You can now read the Which article and survey (in PDF) that Phorm's lawyers have been trying to hide over at WikiLeaks. I won't provide a direct link, just type Phorm in the WikiLeaks search box and it's currently the 3rd article in the search results.

l took a look, l saw the page you were on about... it had information about the PDF file but l saw no download link, could it be that it was removed or am l not looking hard enough.

(wikis are always prone to edits, especially by those who would prefer that someone not know about something if there is a conflict of interest.. its happened many times even government officials are happy to hide their goings on)

Just click on one of the links under Download from for the PDF ... :)

Thanks Bob!

There doesn't seem to be that much wrong with the article - Phorm would have jumped on the "this profile is sold to advertisers".

However I also note that the FAQ about the phorm "opt-out" is wrong too as it implies that there is only one opt-out cookie, rather than one (or possibly more) forged per site. And the claim that you are sent directly to the internet after opting out is wrong too.

That was my view as well (though I didn't go through it forensically). The survey just goes to underline that people don't like advertising or being spied upon - it is just a matter of getting the message out. :hrmph:

I'm pleased to see that Which were critical of the invitation page that BT customers were shown.

Indeed - and if "Which?" realised that you still go through the system, you just don't get profiled, they might have been even less enthusiastic.

As might be expected, it focuses entirely on the ISP customer, no mention of the looted site owner in a relatively short assessment like that, but for something outside the "techie" media, it's probably the most encouraging thing that's come out so far.
:)

I wonder how many subscribers "Which?" have to the paper version?

You can post the direct link, it's now within the public interest.

According to their 2007/2008 annual review, there were 516,000 subscribers to the main magazine at the end of their financial year (June 30 2008).
