Tag on the line

Right guys!

Some advice please.

Got a mate who has a BT line and they had a broadband service with Virgin, some BT billing issues (BT Fault) and the pstn service was ceased.

He has got the BT line backup and has been trying to get a broadband service with Virgin once again, been having problems with getting it all completed and has eventually given up.

Now he has decided to go elsewhere. Anyway, we have discovered today that the line has the Be unlimited tag so he cant go through and order it elsewhere. He has NEVER had a service with them.

So he calls BE and o2 and they have told him that they cant help him as he has no account with them. We obviously want them to place a cease so he can go elsewhere and be happy.

Now I work in the isp industry and o2 actually advised him to speak to btw or openreach, now thats not possible as they only speak to cp's. Right, so the only option i can think off right now is to change the name on the BT bill to force a pstn cease that will clear all services.

Anybody else have any other ideas or maybe a contact I can go to?? It's driving him mad, and to be honest he is going on about it non-stop and doing my head in at work.

Advice please guys would be appreciated!

Thanks,

Yes you can call BTW to get tags removed from lines if you have never had an account with the ISP.

All you have to do is call 0800 169 0934 (Option 1or2) which is the BT Wholesale Marker removal line that end users can call.

Ofcom used to give that number for BT wholesale on their complaint page :- http://web.archive.org/web/20071214...uk/complain/internet/tagmarker/?itemid=344109

but I noticed their advice has now changed :- http://www.ofcom.org.uk/consumeradvice/internet/customer_service/tagonline/tagremoved/

How to get your Tag on the line removed

In general, the most reliable way to get accurate information and advice regarding Tag-on-the-line’ issues is by contacting the service provider you are considering moving to (the ‘gaining provider’).

The incidence of Tags has reduced significantly over the last 12 months, and service providers have significantly improved their ability to correctly diagnose the causes of Tags and, with your help, identify what needs to be done to eliminate them when they arise

Perhaps BT have pulled the Tag-on-line helpline?
