TalkTalk horror!!

We have been using talktalk broadband for a while now. I have been having some problems but now it has become rediculous. I have just got a laptop and i went to download WOW and Steam (HL2) i was at my other house on a BT connection and i was downloading at about 212-130kbps on steam and wow was basically the same.

later that day it was time to go and when i got back i opened up my laptop and resumed the update for Steam, nothing. The speed timer didn't even show up. In WoW it was the same, the downloader for WoW uses a torrent based system and there were no peers...and the download wasn't even moving. The HTTP tracker was horrific too...i was not getting anything from it.

So i say, can someone please help me find a quote on the TT website that i can use to prove that the broadband service they provide is limited in the peak times to "help protect the other users"...because i have been looking for ages but i couldn't find it.

So any help would be appreciated... Thanks.

Try completing BT speed tests at set times of the day and keep a copy of the results. If at peak times it drops too low it could be contention on TT network. BT have set a level it shouldnt drop below or you can report it as a fault. Try reading www.kitz.co.uk go to adsl section its a very good guide to what is allowed.

Now forgive me for being stupid...(blame it on the copious amounts of claret imbibed) Merry Christmas BTW....
But you dont really tell us who your B/Band supplier is...OK I know we could suspect it to be Talk-Talk...or it could be (same difference) C/phone warehouse or some other ISP who has T/T packages up for grabs....(V21 was one)
If you tell us who your ISP is we may be able to give you a better answer...saves us all guessing.
MERRY CHRISTMAS!
:)

Umm, no offence...but are you guys blind...

I am with TalkTalk where the downloads that dont work are...
And BT where to downloads do...none of those posts make sense...

And, moreover...my question was if you could find a quote off the TT website which proves the poor download speeds...because speed tests are "inconclusive" to the person i am convincing.

The problem is tha if they do put in a set number they can't fiddle things...

This is what they did to me when I was wth TT (All those many years ago). They sent me a letter with a MAC on it and told me that Ihad gone over the alloted amount on the AUP and they no longer wanted my business.....
No warnings, nothing....When I asked just how much was the AUP threshhold they would not tell me....
Even when I asked how I could possibly go over a number that I have no knowledge of I was just told there was nothing they could do.

Your best bet is to accept it...Take a MAC from them and move to somewhere better. You will just drive your bloodpressure up trying to argue the toss with them....And it won't be worth it.

Is it that bad?

I have always advocated using Freeserve AKA Wanadoo AKA Orange. They have been my ISP for many years. Until Orange took over the service was excellent but now I have to report that standards have fallen dramatically.
Last April I signed up with TalkTalk for the Broadband package. For about £20 a month I get all UK calls (with a few exceptions i.e 0870 and premium lines) free and overseas calls to 28 mainland countries free as well and Broadband when it was available. However at that time Broadband was not available and so I continued with Freeserve. Recently I received communication from TalkTalk that informed me that as of January 17th they would transfer my Broadband without requiring a MAC from Freeserve. Quite how this works I have no idea.
My reason for replying is to ask if Talk Talk Broadband is OK for general use. I do not need to download vast amounts of data and my emails are small in number. Should I allow them to switch or not.
BTW TalkTalk phone package is excellent. Recently we had a problem with the landline and I sent TT a report which they received at the start of business on a Tuesday. By 11am the fault had been fixed by BT and I even had 3 separate calls to check if all was well.
Regards
Dave

at the time of posting....Blind drunk perhaps:D

But how the fluff do you expect us to find something that doesn't exist?
They're hardly gonna advertise the fact and you say you've searched "for ages and couldn't find it"...are we supposed to know of somewhere on the TT site you haven't looked?:p

Thank you for the only person that replied and made sense.

Ok, i had hered it from someone that there is a statement on their website that mentions the fact that they prevent access to gaming ports to help protect other customers.
