Sad news.
Tele2 has been #1 in customer service.
However this decision might have a lot to do with the drop in DSL prices in the UK... and the investors might be afraid to loose money...
I did think that Tele2 recent position was pretty good to concentrate in guarantee minimum bandwidth for its users.
I guess that this is tough for anyone trying to predict the future of the Internet services in the UK with the recent changes such as KPN Quest...
3 points I would like to make to the investors.
a) The cost of DSL. Since the DSL price dropped to around £20 or less many of my friends and colleagues have either gone ahead or are trying to get DSL (much cheaper than BT anytime which retails at £26 per month).
b) Who can get DSL? Most of us leave too far from the DSL enabled exchanges to get ADSL. To me BT could be giving DSL away for free, and would not make a difference because I'm part of those 70% of the population who leave too far from the DSL enabled exchanges and cannot get the service.
c) What do you qualify as a service? For a long time I used BT Internet dialup surf time. What is the point to have a service where you click on a link and wait for the page appear... 1 minute later the page still has not appeared... click again on the link and the page still does not appear... after many attempts you just give up... this should not be called a service, BT should be paying compensation to anyone suffering from frustration and stressed with a so called service like they and everything going throw their network, and to me when I finally got Tele2 installed (as a home user), and the ability to just click on urls and see the page actually appear in front of me was a dream... I recommend it to anyone. Tele2 stuff knew what they were doing and could provide a decent service to anyone, something that BT and anyone using their network will never achieve.
Believe me... I work in the IT industry and would recommend Tele2 to any of my customers looking for a quality service and until the day companies like BT change and stops ripping off it’s customers I will advise anyone to be aware of them.
I recon one way for Tele2 to succeed would be to open it's network to other isp's with government funding backup, these way the 70% of the users who cannot currently get DSL could get this wonderful wireless service.
Good luck to everyone at Tele2 whose careers this might affect.
Maybe we (the users) should all write to oftel and our local MP's to see if they could intervene and help Tele2 expand.
