so any users care to report on what speeds/pings while playing online pls and if its consistant?
many thanks

BM

Nope, The ping time is not consistent at all being wireless and all, go down the NTL route, they have dedicated game servers.
Its only good if you pay for a high dedicated bandwidth (256kbps and above) and if you are on the 15:1 contention ratio.

thx 4 replying :)
but why aint it no good pls as some guys were saying they got gr8 pings??
also are NTL doing wireless yet??
cheers

As far as i know they are taking no new sign ups for the service. Which is very disapointing because i only found out i could get it about 2 weeks b4 they stopped taking sign ups.

thx 4 the replys :)

From personal experience with Q3A, Tele2 is great and has great pings, I connect to certain servers, in the UK and holland with pings raging from 10ms to 60ms (the trasmitter is at around 10KM away), however I do think that since they suffered the restructuring the download speed is been slightly decreased (at least is the readings that I get from the transmitter test page), always stays between 300kb to 420kb, in the other hand I'm not going to complain about this, because is still very stable and better than what BT and Cable can offer me.

Other people who can get ADSL, I think is normal for them to experience download round the 60-70kb mark, however with this speed Tele2 download don't get anywhere near the 50kb mark(average is 30-40kb).

They should start offering the 1MB connection for the same cost of the 512kb, and people would just queue to subscribe to this wonderfull service.

...also (not sure if tele2 will like this) but I have in the pasted hosted the Q3A server(game server), like thousands of other people out there do, again users connecting from places like holland were connecting at about 45ms, but other countries were connecting at around 150ms-600ms...

The uplink speed dictactes how much bandwith you should allow each user to use before your own game speed get's afected (8 users game should use around 150kb uplink connection).

Keep up the great service Tele2/Liberty!

Well... not long has gone since I've posted the reply above, and Tele2 has now come out with a new special offer for the 1MB connection.

Take a look at this other posting in another Internet Forum:
http://www.satisp.co.uk/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=wireless_cat;action=display;num=1030911681

Tele2 keep up the great work!
:D

They are taking orders?!?! When i tried phoning the CS number on their main site it just rang and rang, with no answer (i only tried twice though). Im about 5 miles away from a reciever, but there are lots around me in my area.
Fingers crossed.

If you look back abit through the posts here i posted some pings made from my Tele2(liberty broadband) connection.
Some of them beat adsl.

I've had Tele2/Liberty Broadband for 9 months, in my experience it's been extremely reliable, never had a single problem connecting, download speeds are consistant regardless of the time. I'd give it 9 out of 10.

A slight gripe would be that the introductory package I was given was a little on the thin side, it consisted of a few sheets of photocopied A4 (setup details) A nice shiny leaflet or CD would have added that little polish.

Liberty Broadband are sending me an information on getting wireless. Now all I need to do is convince my dad that its worth paying out for. Anyone got good arguements i can use :)

Try the always on argument, not having to worry about additional charges for line usage, emails arriving instantly and not when you dial up etc.

Beyond that, I don't know, as it depends on who you are, how old you are and what you intend to do with it (and by that I mean both what you're going to tell him you'll do and what you'll *actually* do)

Te only problem is the £39.99 (exc tax) a month. Im sure he wouldnt mind the £150 instal, but it comes to over £500 a year. It is about £15-ish £ more than I am currently paying (for ISP + 2nd line) a month. Damn, why cant it be ADSL prices (I.E £20-30/month) Them im sure I could pursuade him....

Hey, I could do with less of a dent in the pay packet as well, but if you want to own the sports car then you have to make the repayments

On the subject of Tele2 the best way to find out if you can get it is to get yourself up as high as possible in your house and look for the transmitter with binoculars. I've managed to get a good signal 4 miles away just by pointing the 'dish' roughly in the right direction. Apparently 10 miles should work so long as there is nothing in the way between you and their transmitter.

I've been speaking to the CEO and chief Engineer for Tele2 this past week or so and from what I hear about their infrastructure pings *should* be better than ADSL/cable most of the time. Once we get the service installed I'll be able to tell you more. What I can say is that as Tele2 is a terrestrial connection it won't suffer from the same lag problems as satellite.
