Hi

If your link is tot he website you host on your home connection wouldnt it benefir from a hosting package where the servers are in the datacentres

yes as kits says for a static ip u gone pay £5 extra any way, u can use that money 2 host it some where good. unless u need some special need (like processor intensive apps etc)

in that case l know a host that costs £5 per month its a cluster server hasnt got the best Cpanel but damn for 25gig space and l think 500gig transfer it seems too good to be true however me and my friend have used them for years the only limit tho that we have seen was queries per hour on dbs but we never hit that at all

the host is at servage.net however if anyone is intrested please pm me for a coupon to sign on with and you can get extra space and transfer for signing up using it...

and just so you know if you do ask me for the coupon, so as not to hide anything as an ulterior motive for anyone who asks we would get extras as well for signups using the coupon, which amount to an extra month for each user of our coupon extra 500meg space and transfer l think..

anywho l'll leave it at that because l dont want to post the coupon in the open as l havent read the rules on advertising on the boards

I bought some hosting off ebay, £12 for the year with a free .com domain included. They're maybe not the most professional looking hosts, but it seems to work ok for the price. :D They're called Darkenhosting, you don't need to buy through ebay, they sell from their website too.

A didicated server will cost me hundreds a month of £ - knowing I will need the max CPU power and at least 2gig rams.

As for now if I find a reliable ISP, i can do everything myself : my problem is the disconnection

I am thinking of having another ISP to use as a backup

Thank you for your time

if u need that much of the resources then you need to host it your self, demon's business package is really good they do 4 mb and 8 mb down with uploads up to 800kbits it's an adsl connection, so u still can't get 100% access but I use it 4 one of my companies I give support to and so far they didn't let me down. easynet is good as well but very expensive.

out of interest what type of website u have that requires this type processor time.

KDS ,

The web site I am running is skillipedia ( in sig as well). The server (jboss) + mysql + security suite need at least 400m memory and if I start getting decent traffic I will need the max ram I get can get. The backend will also need the max cpu power

Does anybody know how web hosting services manage to keep connected all the time?

Does anybody know how web hosting services manage to keep connected all the time?

they pay 1000s of pounds for least lines and have multiple connecting to the internet backbones. or small hosting companies have least line connection with big ISPs.

if you start getting lot of visitors, your bandwidth of any adsl connection wont be enough. you have to think as for hosting only uploads of your connection matters. even with demon you gone get 800kbits uploads, that will fill up with just 10 visitors (each of them using only just 80k bandwidth ).

i think if you need this much of a custom app and like to use your own hardware you need to look in to co-location which will cost a bit as well, but less than what u pay for lease line /SDSL connection or Ethernet connection.

many isps do co-lo like demon, interroute etc just phone them around and get a quote.

you will not be able to run a business website on adsl connection. i couldn't run my personnel blog on home connection. it will just die out soon as u get few visitors. so i moved it with 1and1 managed hosting which is not bad for blog and they the only cheapest dedicated host i know, mind u their bandwidth is limited tho.

when l mentioned about the service l did earlier its a clustered service which means you dont actually run the site from one system its actually run from many systems based in different locations so that if one goes down another serves the data as l said tho the only limits are queries per hour but ive never reached them and lve run a forum with the hosting for many years
