Telewest Rollout

Anyone know how i can find out off telewest when my area will be upgrading for broadband?

AFAIK all telewest area's apart from Eurobell are broadband enabled - as Telewest are now Telewest Broadband - and if you have the broadband tv (used to be "active digital") then you should be able to have blueyonder BB :)

A lot of Telewest customers are still on the old analogue Cabletime network.

Telewest was looking into the possibility of providing broadband cable modems for those living in 'old' analogue network areas and not able to receive digital tv & broadband but financial restraints mean they will not be performing a full upgrade to Cabletime areas during 2002. The process is due to start in 2003 and will, hopefully, be completed before the end of 2004

Cabletime areas are Birmingham, Liverpool, Preston & West London.

Where are these CableTime facts on the telewest website then? and an example postcode please :)

Try this one in the PCode checker

PR1 8DW thats a Preston code. That postcode can actually see the uplink center in Preston.

Cabletime is brushed under the carpet by Telewest.

actually sheflad you will find it isnt, if you search back through my posts in the Blueyonder Forum and the News Articles here on ISPr you will find quite a few mentions of CableTime areas not being upgraded. Some areas may have been done although they are not doing any more now - they simply dont have the funds.

Yus, I know that Mark, but Birmingham isnt one of them, so said poster is misleading people.

Well, I do not live in Liverpool but Slough. In fact in the centre of Slough.

You can get Blueyonder broadband to the east (east Slough / west London), to the west (west Slough / Maidenhead) and to the south including parts of Windsor.

I actually drive past a Telewest Blueyonder office (approx 1.5 miles from home) to my workplace. I CAN'T get Blueyonder broadband.

I have two Telewest analogue phone lines. I can get BT ADSL if I change my phone line provider, currently I have and use satellite 'ADSL'. So the gist of this post is maybe parts of Liverpool are not Telewest broadband equipped.

Parts of Birmingham, Liverpool, Preston & London are not yet broadband enabled by Telewest, the said poster is therefore correct.

My brother lives in Liverpool, lives in a Telewest cable area, has a Telewest cable telephone but can't get broadband off them.

You are misleading yourself never mind anyone else if you think calling itself Telewest Broadband means it's areas are 100% broadband or digital tv enabled.

Cabletime

"Telewest will not be performing a full Digital upgrade to our Cabletime areas during 2002. The process is due to start in 2003 and will be completed before the end of 2004. The trial of 10 thousand homes will continue as we seek to provide the most cost effective way and least disruptive way to upgrade. As this affects our ability to offer HSI services in these regions, under great marketing pressure we are now investigating further how a partially upgraded network can be suited to provide these services in a shorter time frame. It would appear that Cabletime while offering impossible technical barriers to Digital Television does not hold the same problems for HSI. Telewests Technology and Engineering teams are now looking at the possibilities of offering Cable modem services over Cabletime and will be reporting early in the New Year."

Hi Fred,

I'm in the Slough area, and like you am in the old Cable Corporation wiring area, hence no Telewest Broadband.
You stand a very good chance of getting Tele2 / Liberty broadband, i've got it and its great, runs 480 up and down on the speed tests!

<TheBoy69>

Thanks,

I must admit I had not considered wireless. A postcode search shows my home is covered. Might be saying goodbye to Telewest and AOL soon.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I live in Blackpool and we used to have the old "Telewest Communications" anaglogue system installed, it was Scientific Atlanta, Preston has the same... This is NOT Cabletime, so why haven't they upgraded Preston.

Although we left Telewest for Sky analogue and BT we asked to sign up to cable and were due to be installed on 3 aug, were still bloody wasting... There a pile of crap anyways but was just curious.

Cheers

well i live in Liverpool and have Telewest analouge in our street but no broadband from telewest of BT so do you think they have wireless here or do you think that telewest will have this area broadbanded in a year or so?

Ring and ask them, that is what I did. However, due to Telewest’s current financial situation, I would have no faith in their reply. Suggest you explore other avenues in the meantime i.e. wireless or satellite.

Oh and to cheese you off you *CAN( have broadband on a analogue system (cabletime) since the technical trial which works perfectly is in the Frenchwood area of Preston but AFAIK no other area. This has been ongoing for about 2/3 years now. Why they havent rolled this out I dont know.

Thanks man it has cheesed me off more

I haven't a clue what happened to my english in that post. What I MEANT to say is that Telewest have a working broadband trial in the Frenchwood area of Preston that has been ongoing for 2/3 years now and works perfectly. AFAIK this trial is not available in any other cabletime area and I am not sure why they havent added this as an option for cabletime areas
