Telnet problem

After re-building a pc with Win 7 and everything up and running, I tried to obtain router stats. I can get up to "password" then the keyboard will not function, I can't in-put the password "adsl info --stats". I then press "enter" then a new request for password which it lets me enter "adsl info --stats". Hit "enter" and it just reverts back to requesting "password". The router is a tp-link and I have tried it on a linksys with the same results.

Anyone any idea what is amiss, please.

Regards Paul.

I'm a bit unclear about what's happening. When you are requested to enter the password you are typing it and pressing return(it is quite normal for keystrokes not to be echoed to the screen when entering a password)? "adsl info --stats" is not a password, it is a command you would issue after you have logged in. If you are using the router I think you are try "admin" for login and password.

Hi Bob,

Tried ADMIN but it will not work, when password is asked for, the keyboard does not work. You cannot enter any thing. IF you press ENTER it requests the password again and this time you can enter ADMIN, the press enter and it just puts up another request for the password.

It's just going round in circles. I have no idea what could be wrong, think I will have to get a new one. It even does this when the linksys router is inline. Could the problem be a setting in the Windows system?

Paul.

I am basing my reply on this post. It should work. The keyboard probably is working but it is not echoing the characters to the screen during the password request(normal). If you get desperate I suppose you could reset the router(you'll have to check your user guide for instructions), and then follow the instructions in my old post - which worked for me. :hrmph:

Hi Bob, Will give it a try, just to be clear from my end when asked for the password you can press any key you like. But nothing registers on screen the cursor just stays where it is. the only key to have any effect is the ENTER key.

That is what is supposed to happen. When you get the password request type "admin", you won't see the characters appear on the screen, then hit ENTER.

Hi Bob,

Thanks for your help once again, did what you said, went back to factory settings and re-installed every thing and its now working.
I must have had some wrong settings that screwed telnet up.

Best regards Paul.

Maybe you originally changed the routers username and thus I'd assume "admin" would not work?
