Temporary 4G/5G Broadband (BT Cab smashed in car accident)

Any suggestions for a temporary 4G/5G broadband solution? A family member is asking for help as a car has crashed into the BT cab serving her home. She's with Sky who say they wont help with an alternative connection, they will only pause payments until its fixed (could be weeks).

My own solution of a £200 router and £6pm business Three connection for 24 months probably wont suit her. Any other suggestions?

A Sercomm 4G router should cost around £35 second hand, add an unlimited sim from Smarty and you’re up and running for under £50.

In parallel with a 4G LTE mobile broadband solution, perhaps request automatic compensation to incentivize a rapid fix.

Perfect, on their own website too. I'll get her to quote that when phoning them back tomorrow.

^This.

I have the Sercomm LTE2122GR 4G (£35) which can run on any network*. I haven't used Smarty since I have an iD Mobile PAYG SIM - I bought a £20 unlimited data one-month bundle for my daughter to test 4G at her house with my original MF286D from Three.

* eta: @MrTwinky2 enabling the Requestly addon when I want to switch APN

Yeah this is truly really anywhere, I don't have any POWs here but Three does a good 20-30mbps and I can easily run my whole house from it when Box BB goes down. Three/SMARTY is just the easiest to spin up and "router" friendly

Yeah I started out with that same router, it can work with any provider but only thanks to a member on this forum that figured out a hack to unlock the hidden APN features,
this is a link to the thread with the guide on how to unlock it using burp, once you've edited the APN settings for other providers than 3, the settings will remain in place even after reboots and power outages

If EE has a strong signal then Lyca are doing unlimited data for £9.99 for 6 months, contract is monthly so cancel anytime.

I'm about to order one to see if I can survive when my (expensive) BT FTTP comes to an end in a few months

Expect high latency during the day with Lyca. 150-250ms during peak hours.

Three do a 30 day rolling option on their 5G router that you just return at the end of the contract. Would be more than suitable generally.

Do you have a link? I couldn't find it on their site. It directs you to 18 and 24 month contracts.

I'd advise to steer clear of Lyca. I signed up to a black Friday offer in November, then 3 months later they claim they couldn't take payment and have reverted me to PAYG. Now I can't even speak to them because ringing their customer service number now returns number not recognised.
Shyster's.

On their site it comes up after doing the address search of either the 2 year 22/month plan or the 1 month 25/month plan. Router is free rental in both cases but they send a returns bag when you cancel it to return it free of charge.

Seems like a great option for those in temporary need at 25/month
