Tenda MW12

Does anyone on here have any experience with Tenda mesh systems at all?

After some research, I've purchased a Tenda MW12 (3 pack) mesh system for the home which seemed to be a good 'bang for buck' option.

As part of that research, I had a quick play with the product simulator on this page - https://simulator.tendacn.com/mw12/#/advance/status - which, while not feature-packed, did contain the features I'd expect for a basic home network.

However once I'd received the product all of the setup, and settings, are facilitated via a basic app. I cannot find any webUI or anything that resembles the simulator above, and as a result, a lot of the features shown in the simulator are awol.

I merely wondered if anyone on here had experience with Tenda products and if there's a "secret" menu/option/GUI that I'm missing?

I hate Tenda.
I installed a 5 x Tenda MW3 at my parents property, worked lovely but every minute each node would ping microsoft.com, baidu.com, google.com to check for connectivity.

60 x 24 = 1440 requests, x 3 for each site = 4320, x 5 for each node equals 20,000 odd dns requests a day just to check connectivity.

if you block the requests the mesh decides the internet does not exist.

I've recently ripped it out for TP-Link OneMesh, which only pings a.root-servers.net every once in a while to check for connectivity, and I'm only seeing 6,000 dns requests a day.

Tenda can only be configured with the app, someone reverse engineered the MW6 if you want a detailed report:

Thanks for the response. Very interesting.

I'm not seeing a plethora of DNS requests for Google or Baidu (none at all for the latter) but I have seen just under 10k for Microsoft.com today and it's only just gone 11 AM. Something to be conscious of I guess if not overly concerning at the moment.

The GitHub article is interesting so I'll read that in more detail later. It's curious that Tenda would provide a model-specific 'simulator' that doesn't exist in reality.

That 'minor' oversight aside, so far at least, the product is working well. I just wish I could disable one of the firewall features.
