Tesco Broadband Connection Problems...

Hi all, just wondered if anybody is having the same problem connecting to Tesco broadband as I am...

Sometimes when I try to connect I get the message 'error 0680 - there is no dial tone'. So I keep trying, and it usually connects after a dozen or so attempts. In the evenings, however, its worse and can be anything up to a couple of hundred attempts before it connects(as this evening). Every time I get the same error message.

I called tesco today and they took note of the problem and said they would call me back... but they didnt.

Do you think this is related to a lack of capacity(as it seems to be worse at peak times) or a problem with my equipment?

Thanks.

It could be a problem at your end. It sounds as if your modem is not syncing
ADSL does not need dialtone so that message is misleading. If you modem has not synced you will have a flashing LED or other indicator.

Try disconnecting all your phones and an other equipment you may have from the line ie Skybox, Fax machine etc. If possible disconnect all your etensions from the BT line. The plug your ADSL modem directly into the BT socket (No ADSL/Splitter) and see if it works ok. May be best to do this in the evening when you seem to get the most trouble.

Hi Guys....do i take it from the lack of messages in here that everything is working fine with Tesco Broadband?...or can none of you get online to post?...or have you all left Tesco for another service?

Cheers

This evening took me 45mins to get online (Error 0718- the remote computer did not respond in a timely manner). Diagnostics say the PPP connection is down. Tried ringing support but as usual spent 30mins holding and then gave up. Extremely irritating message telling me to look at the tesco.net hompage if I don't want to wait, and that they are receiving a high volume of calls at the moment! This was the same a month ago so why hasnt anything been done about the volume of calls yet?

...and YES THE FLIPPIN LIGHTS ARE GREEN!!!! :)

Its amused me as to ehy people think that a company that specialises in selling bananas and things would be any good in the ISP world.

Why dont people spend a few pence more a month and go with a quality, reliable and more importantly, proper ISP one that been doing it for years.

I'm with NDO (who have been around for 9 years) never had a problem; no slow downs, never had a problem connecting and today they launched yet another ADSL pipe to ensure we all keep getting the best speeds - great, class service. Its probably becuase NDO specialise in ISP services and don't even try to sell me baked beans.

Tesco = a supermarket; not an ISP!

NTL don't sell bananas do they?....wish I could afford to spend abit more...i struggle to afford £13.99 for dial-up....if I lived elsewhere I could get broadband for £2 more, but as I don't, Tescos would be my affordable option....especially as I don't want download limits, or to pay an "installation" fee

Tesco is definitely not an option for "broadband delivery" as yet. Prospective customers would be well advised to steer clear. As well as becoming a reseller of an inferior product (NTL), they have seriouisly underestimated demand and the above errors are commonplace.
Their response; take an ostrich like approach and hope it all blows over - A disgusting approach from a seemingly respectable company!

Again, this highlights the difference between the DataStream and the IPStream delivery model!

Error 680

I am a tech and I take allot of tesco calls!

680

first check if your adsl light on the modem is constant green

if it is, follow these easy steps! (even if you have connected before)

open control panel

goto system

device manager

click the "+" next to modems

right click your internal (old) modem

click properties

tick disable this device

click ok

try connecting

Thanks for your reply stitchtech but we've sorted that error now... the current error is "error 718 - the remote computer did not respond in a timely manner"... at least I think it was 718 when it happened yesterday but it may have been 712...

Anyway, it works fine all day but as soon as everybody comes home at 6pm, I get booted and usually can't get back on again unless I can be bothered to spend 45 minutes trying. I do like this software though that is actually blaming tesco.com for me not being able to get online... Will give it til I move house in 3 weeks and if it doesnt improve then its bye bye tesco.

By the way, I have sent 2 emails to tesco.net support and havent received any replies at all... after 10 days! Ridiculous.

HOORAY!!!! I received a reply from tesco.net to my email. It says:

"Dear %customer_name%,

Thank you for your recent email.

Kind regards,

Muhammad
Tesco Internet Support Team
http://www.tesco.net

Support 8am-12pm 365 days a year"

And thats it. And yes it actually says "Dear %customer_name%," instead of my name!!!

What a joke tesco.net is. If support can't even reply to an email asking for help properly, what hope do they have of sorting anything out?

You should feel honoured indeed to get any response from this cowboy operation!
Have you tried using %customer_name% as a login?

Might also be worth them starting a new thread seeing as this one dates back to 2004 and i doubt the packages they sell (think they do a C&W based LLU offering nowadays) are the same as they were back then. No idea who their suppliers were in 2004
