Testing/Discussion: Vodafone (Inc. Talk Mobile, Lebara)

ASDA Mobile Talk & Text £4 SIM activated.
Go on little SIM, try and access data, go on.

Anyway VoLTE and WiFi Calling just work
Where did you get this from, can't see this plan anywhere.

Asda Mobile
Here you go Lucian. :)

Anyone using a TalkMobile SIM for Wireless Broadband?

I'm planning on switching from NOW cable to a 4G/5G SIM router.

Have tested several SIMs, of which the TalkMobile one is the fastest (and significantly faster than my current cable).

Problem is, to log on to your TalkMobile account requires a one-time passcode getting sent to the mobile number of the SIM - which doesn't seem possible if the SIM is in your broadband router?

Have contacted TM customer services about this and apparently there is no other method they allow for logging on, and the passcode can only be sent to the router SIM number, not to my actual mobile phone. Their best suggestion is "Take the SIM out of the router and put it in a mobile phone. Get the passcode, then put the SIM back in the router." Which of course means my network loses its broadband connection.

This seems monumentally stupid - just wondering if anyone's using a TalkMobile SIM in their broadband router, and if so, how do they access their TM account?

With most mobile routers there’s usually a browser based admin management page. You can login to this, and aside from all of the usual obvious features such as network settings, WiFi Settings etc., there will be a section to receive any SMS messages. 😊

Welcome along to the forums gordon_k, as th_442 said, most routers do have an sms section where you can read and attend to any recieved texts.

I get them all the time on my routers to let me know that my bill is now ready, how nice of them.🤬

Cheers guys - seems I've made the beginner's error of assuming TalkMobile cs would know what the hell they were talking about. 😂

I've found the router page with the SMS messages, and indeed there are some texts in there I'd missed when I stuck my phone SIM in the router to test it.

Problem solved. So I think I'll go with TM anyway (despite their slightly ropey cs) - I'm getting more than 100Mbps on some downloads, which is more than I was expecting on 4G+

The SMS section of the router also contains several messages sent months ago to the previous owner of the router. I've tried deleting these, but although it goes through the delete procedure, the messages persist. Any tips for this?

Factory reset? Might remove it all then.
Yes that'll work, I remember getting 2 setup configuration texts from Lebara that wouldn't delete, I had to do a reset to get rid of them, total pain but it did the job.

Looks like I may be moving to Vodafone 5G when my Scancom EE runs out, decent speeds standing in my apartment of 200 plus down
