I know it's a bit late for christmas
Why send lots of Christmas cards to family and friends this year, when you can make your Christmas greeting ring in their ears? Thanks to a new BT service you can text a landline and send a cheerful rendition of Jingle Bells to your family throughout December, or even a rousing burst of Auld Lang Syne to friends at New Year.
• The jingles can be sent by users of O2, Vodafone, Orange, H3G (3) and SMS-enabled landlines
It’s simple. When you’re writing your text message to a landline, just add a special code starting with an asterisk to your text to trigger a jingle. Your text message might read something like: “Merry Xmas. I can’t be there 2 sing it with u but thought u might like this *merryxmas# .”
When the text is delivered to the landline it will be as a voice call. The text is converted to automated speech and when the *merryxmas# code is reached, the recipient will hear the familiar strains of We Wish You A Merry Christmas sung to them.
Further seasonal jingles available include: *jinglebells# - to play Jingle Bells; and *newyear# - to play Auld Lang Syne.
So, now you can go Christmas carolling from the comfort of your phone and send a festive chime to spread some yuletide cheer by texting a landline.
Notes to editors:
• Sending text messages from mobiles to fixed lines as voice or text cost the same as texting to another mobile and the jingles don’t cost any extra
• Users of O2, Vodafone, Orange, H3G (3), BT Mobile, T-Mobile and SMS-enabled landline phones can send a text to a landline
• The jingles can be sent by users of O2, Vodafone, Orange, H3G (3) and SMS-enabled landlines
• A text message will be converted to speech and delivered as a voice call to all numbers beginning 01 or 02 (except in the Channel Islands) irrespective of network.
• A text message will be sent as a text only to registered lines connected to BT, Telewest and Kingston Communications with an SMS-enabled landline and the Caller Display feature, except when a jingle is included where the message will be delivered as text to speech
