The 2nd best deal ever!

Last January there was an offer from Carphone Warehouse for a Nokia 7600 (yes, bloody ugly thing) 500 minutes Xnetwork and 100 texts, connected to the 3 network for £4.99 a month!!! I just got it to keep it at home so that the family can use this phone to call mobiles and avoid using the land line.

My friend got the best deal ever, same phone and same minutes / texts but for only £2.99. Now, that is what I call a great deal :)

The offer will be made invalid if you change your tariff.

Great offer but how easy will it be to get the rebate? I've been there before, plus the E616 aint the best phone. I know someone who is on their 9th phone within 12mths!

For a while last year, E2save (owned by cpw) were doing the 7600 on 3 (600 xnet I think) with 100% cashback.

Didn't get one as I don't use the phone enough to be worth the hastle or risk. Reportedly cpw have just purchased OSPS who were doing a nice moto with 100% cashback if you want to take the risk.

I would like a new mobile but I cant justify buying one on payg. However, one of these offers with all the minutes does appeal to me but the phones are not always the best i.e. E616.

Well, my friend just completed a 12 months contract with 1/2 money back, after the 6 and 12 bills. He said it wasn't a problem with CPW but it takes a few days to get the cheque.

The Nokia 7600 is an ugly looking phone but works OK. It's only used in the house so no worries to leave it somewhere! Even if it broke, it would cost me only £60 to see the end of the contract.

I wasn't to sure about 3, however, I will move to 3 next time my Orange phone contract is up.

If 3 continues offering these contracts, the other networks will have to come down with their prices.

3 were featured on this week's BBC Watchdog programme because many users were complaining of dodgy connections/signal strength/phones. :(

I think its becoming less competitive, my contract which is about 6 years old gives me:

75 mins local / national calls free at any time - rolling over month by month if I do not use them. [Currently I think i have around 150 mins to use up]
10p per minute otherwise peak
2p per minute otherwise off-peak
all for GBP 14.99 a month.

I have been to all the networks recently (looking for a phone with the MS os) and _no_ network [from all the retail outlets anyway] can match the price plan I am currently on (unless i want to pay GBP 75 per month - hah, nice one orange!)

The phones may be cheaper! The call plans are not.

Tom, is that from T-mobile? I have a tariff for my wife's phone with the same.

3 offer 500 mins across networks and 100 texts (if you use them) for £14.99 with a new phone and a varity of cashback & low start payment offers.

Thanks for the story Mel. Most interesting. :)

Sounds like the same beast.

Funnily enough I looked at three ages ago but couldnt get coverage. They now say I get voice and pictures in my area.. woo. thats all I want from a phone :D

Next step is to see if they want to offer me a decent phone and not the bricks you could get about 10 months ago :D

Just cos they say you can get coverage doesnt mean you will. Remember if you have a problem it's gonna take all your free call time to explain your name and address to the call centre in India.

3 is doing the Motorola E1000 which my friend says is the best phone he ever had. It's a good size phone and it looks very smart. It has good coverage and it's well built.

Talking about coverage, my 3 phone has better coverage than my Orange phone where I live!

I have an old contract with Orange, Everyday 50, 50 minutes a day to Orange and land line and 1p per minute after the 50 minutes. All for £15 per month. I do use a lot of 0800 and 0870 numbers so I'm happy with the contract. However, I think Orange customer service is not as good as they used to be. :(

100% cashback deals seem to regularily crop up, however I've read that the mobile phone operators may reduce the amount of commission they will pay to agents in future because of the low retention rate of customers they sign up.

OSPS were doing a free motorola V545 on orange "OVP Voda Anytime 200" with "free" 12 months contract via 100% cashback about 2 or 3 weeks ago.
(before christmas they were doing a sony erricson with 100% cashback)

They are currently only offering a 10 months rental refund by cashback.

http://www.onestopphoneshop.co.uk/ourdeals.php?PROV=OR&OFF=V545&TAR=V150

E2save are doing a similar deal on the cheaper "OVP relax 100" tariff

http://www.e2save.com/mobile/phones/disphandset.php?network=orange&handset=V545

(I haven't checked the T&Cs, but I think both are 12 month minimum contracts)

If the retailer goes bust (one of the smaller ones went bust at christmas), or you fail to comply with the T&Cs you'll lose out on the cashback - it may be advisable to send bills and claim vouchers by recorded delivery, also these cashback deals usually come with insurance and add ons that have to be cancelled to get the advertised price. I don't know if the V545 is any good.
I guess you'd also want to cancel in time to end the contract at exactly 12 months.

Might be worth trying to negotiate a cheap new phone in exchange for sticking with your existing contract. If all else fails I've read asking for a PAC can sometimes be effective.

I still find them to be a class above the rest.

My personal experience with T-mobile has been flawless apart from the week or so around the name change from one2one to T-mobile - they were a mess then.

Try getting T-mobile to put their promises in writing! They lied to me last August and I cant wait til the contract ends.

Mind you I also hear NTL wont put things in writing.
