Here at The Gadget Show we want your help top try and stop some of the UK’s Internet Service Providers advertising their broadband services as having “unlimited downloads”.

If you subscribe to an “unlimited” package – and you agree with us – then we’d like you to contact your ISP and make a complaint.

And, if you’ve had your “unlimited” service restricted, suspended or even disconnected because your data usage was deemed excessive, then get in touch. E-mail us at thegadgetshow@five.tv

I believe they'd done something like this before and helped promote Fast4 as an example of how to properly display limits, which came shortly after the ISP canned its unlimited services and swapped to a new more restrictive supplier.

At least it's a bit more publicity about the issue.

the moment they got Fast4 on the program l felt The gadget show lost all credibility when talking about ISPs... Fast4 should not have been able to get on the show after all their problems an ISP like Zen should have featured, at least they have good reviews and very few if any complaints and their network as far as l know hasnt had anything that could be considered a blip in service like the catastrophe that happened to Fast4 and the EurISP network.

Yep, last time is was to stop ISPs using "up to" in their advertising  http://www.ispreview.co.uk/talk/showthread.php?t=25662&highlight=gadget+show

And having got their free publicity, farce4 conveniently forgot steven's promise not to use "up to" in their advertising - until I reminded them  http://www.ispreview.co.uk/talk/showpost.php?p=198804&postcount=8

lol, indeed... makes me laugh tho how one can get away with constantly making promices which one can never or never plans to deliver, wonder how many customers they have left, must not be that many since theres not many complaints any more that or they have struck off staff because none of them seem to come here any more.

The show does at least make a few good points about the problems with "unlimited" claims, especially when used alongside the word "downloads". Somehow I doubt anything will change though without more official action. However one problem with the show was how they failed to put an alternative across and there's little point in starting such a campaign without that.

Most of us would probably be happy with specific usage restrictions as an alternative, although unlimited does still have its place. Though a better solution is just to make Fair Usage Policies more transparent and open about how much petrol is in the fuel tank, so to speak.
