The Netgear Nighthawk MR5200 is awful

I recently got the MR5200 with a SMARTY unlimited sim...

But sadly only got 4g which was slower than my £50 Tenda router from Amazon, My Iphone12 gets full 5g signal in my house with download speeds around 800mbps.

I tried DC Unlocker and limited the bands to the 5g ones, this did work but it doesn't seem very stable..

What was really stange is I drove to the mast and I couldn't get signal on the MR5200 at all! But my phone was now getting 1300 down and 160 up

Has anyone used this Netgear router?

Hi which model number is on the bottom of your MR5200?

And what Tenda is £50 and gives good speeds?

I can't see a model number on the bottom..

Yeah the tenda is around 45-50 down and 30 up...

the Netgear is around 8 down and 2 up on 4g lol

Strange it's got the same modem as the ZTE mc801a, zyxel nr7101, mikrotik chateau 5g.

What firmware version are you using?

I take it that it's the m5?

You've got the European model, according to whirlpool forums the default mask is rubbish:

Setting manual bands:

From what I'm reading, Netgear sets a maximum of eight bands for both 5g and 4g.

I'm betting your bands are set to things you don't need on Smarty.

Can you read the manual band link and let us know what AT!BAND=? Shows?

Thank you so much for doing some research for me! I have tried this and sadly still doesn't work.. I will have to return the router this week and try something else.

Its mad that a £800 router isnt just plug and play.

Is what it is i guess. Thanks for your help :)

That’s disappointing, if you search netgear in this forum, the m1 also had issues with Smarty.

Conversely you could pick up the zte mf286d or the mc801a and they just work.

Did you get anywhere? I have just been offered a Nighthawk at an attractive price. I'm happy with my Huawei but always interested in progress.
