The Three Mobile Network

Hi, Im looking at the network Three, has anyone had any bad experiences with them? Im on tesco (o2) pay-as-u-go at the moment, and looking at their cheap £15/month contract. Whats the coverage like? Ive heard that their SIM cards are different from other Mobile Providers....is that true? Any feedback would be appreciated :D

i believe they use 02 network same as tesco if no 3g signal is recieved then u get 2g from o2.

so if ur tesco mobile is poor where u live then 3 will be as well

people i know on the network dont have many problems except for cover but they dont use 3g to much so it suits them fine one of the cheapest payg networks around and they give free credit for every call answered and text recieved. they also do a good £15 monthly contract with about 500 minutes and a lot of texts 150? for and upgraded phone every 12 months for life.

To connect to a 3G network you need a USIM (Short for UMTS SIM). USIMS only work in 3G phones. I use both the T-Mobile network and the Three network on 2 different devices. The 3G network isn't as complete as a 2G network but it does cover 90% of the population and I find it very good. If you are in a city or a popular area you should be fine.

You should only worry about 3Gif you plan to use the data element of 3G for coverage. If you don't, and only plan to use voice and text, then it'll make no difference.

Three used to use O2 as their 2G fall-back network but they recently switched to Orange. So I would check with someone who has an orange phone what the coverage is like.

Regards,

Rupert

I would recommend staying clear of Three, their customer service team is based in India, and it can sometimes be a real problem to get the message through of what you want to their team. Also, they normally charge extra for videos / news bulletins etc, and also expect to pay £1 for around £5mb of web browisng outside of the general Three site, and then that is limted to their sites they have chosen. I would recommend instead considering a 2g contract with T Mobile, I am with them, and their customer service has been absoutley fantastic, although I deal with a different team to personal issues I have not had a single problem, they have unserstood all I have asked, and have been more than helpful and I have personally experinced zero waiting times, and anyway it's free for me to contact their customer services, and I can not fault them, I might deal with a specalised team, but this is a small team, and to say the least they are starting to know me, and are really starting to treat me as a real friend as I have had no quibbles with them at all, as I can even contact them via a freephone number from a landline apart from a standard UK local rate number for everyone else, even that and their team is based in the UK, you'd never be speaking to India again. Although some reception can be a little dogy in rural areas, they are superb, they might do some 3G, but I don't think you'd need it from the service and quality of phones you get, as well as the general superb customer services team, who I can't fault at all.

I think you should check out the tariffs and internet options that 3 is now offering. They are by no means limited to only their portal or sites they choose. They have a very open access policy for people who want open internet access and the tariffs simply distinguish between usage of the sim as a modem for internet access (where nothing is blocked) or a browsing tariff where some ports are blocked.

For example, if you don't want to download or stream via the SIM then their £5 per month X-Series add-on has an unlimited usage browsing tariff (with a FUP of 5GB browsing). Seems pretty unbeatable if you ask me.

Or depending on your useage, either Tmobile or 02 (cant remember which) allow you to pay £1 for a gig of data a day. This might sound a lot, but you can just pay it when you want to, so if you know your going to be out and about, you pay.

This could work out much better, but it all depends how you use it.

Interestingly, Vodafone dont limit you to using a Usim to access the 3G network. Although vodafones coverage seems to be poor for that.
