These settings worked for me

If you're still stuck with these clowns, as I am, then you may want to try some of these fixes that I've stumbled upon during my struggle.

1) If you have a router that supports PPPoE try using this encapsulation method instead of PPPoA, for some reason it stays connected much longer.

2) Also for routers, though you can do this for the speedtouch modem but it's a little more complex and I won't cover it here. Lower the MTU to about 1448 or slightly lower.

3) Ditch Orange's useless DNS and switch to using OpenDNS. This made a HUGE difference for me anyway. (This solves the problems where the connection appears to be connected but won't go to any websites until you disconnect and reconnect.)

Preferably you should ditch Orange altogether, though if you're tied into a contract with them then these steps may make your time with Orange slightly more bearable. In my case I now find the connection to be actually usable.

I'm not on Orange, but I also use OpenDNS. It just works.
