Thoughts/Suggestions on a rural 4G setup with an external antenna on the roof.

Hi,

The house is a mile or so away from the mast with no line of sight. I have tried different sims and I know that I can get a decent d/l speeds from EE as well as being a BT customer making the sim cheaper.

The problem is that there is no signal in the house. I need an antenna on the top of the house (see attached photo). The mast is the other side of the house to the window.

I was thinking a "Poynting XPOL-1-5G V2 Outdoor 3.5dBi 2x2 MIMO Omni-Directional 4G LTE/5G Antenna" - https://www.broadbandbuyer.com/products/42643-poynting-5g-xpol-1-v2-21/. Thoughts?

How much cable do you think I would need to get down from the chimney to the downstairs room, as marked with the arrow? Is this a sensible idea?

My local TV installation (which has a good rep) place said if I provided the equipment, they would install it for £60.

A specialist 4G guy quoted me £360 for everything including antenna, cables, router, etc (he hasn't got back to me yet on what the actual kit would be).

Thanks :)

If it was me, I would use an outdoor router like the mc7010. The antenna you mentioned doesn’t have that much signal gain, since it’s omi directional. You could use a directional antenna, but you’d lose lot of the signal improvement in the long cable run. The outdoor router uses a Ethernet cable, and isn’t effected much by signal loss in the cable.

Yes, this would get over any signal losses in the antenna cable. Just remember that if the router is up on a pole above your chimney, you'll need to get up there if you ever need to change the SIM!
