Three 4g Home Broadband setup hassle

I've got my router today, I've phoned Three's technical line but I don't seem to be getting anywhere.
They sent a Huawei B535 and a new SIM. The router is stuck on the red light for internet and restarting doesn't help. Initially I was told the SIM should activate in 2 hours. After 2 hours they said 24 hours.
I am wondering whether I need to register the number (and thus the SIM) for the My3 portal in order to activate it? The call handlers say that is nothing to do with activation, although it seems to me to be a good way of verifying the SIM has been received by the email address owner.
The only problem is I can't try that as I have another three SIM / mobile number on the same email address which doesn't allow 2 numbers to be registered to the same email address.
Anyone had these issues before? The whole idea is that it would be quick to setup (next day router delivery on a weekend was great).
Many thanks in advance, I realised I am a newbie to the forums!

Does the sim work in your phone?
Does the other sim work in the router?

Three is (in)famous for their poor service, test them thoroughly in the next days, cancel if it doesn't work out. Usually EE share the masts with Three and have a much better service (also more expensive), might be worth getting a sim from them, too and test.

Sadly the SIMs are of different size - nano in my phone and micro for the hub. I will try registering on My3 and see what happens.

You should be able to push the nano SIM back into the micro surround after its come out. Be gentle when popping the nano out to ensure the micro piece doesn't break. Also need to be gentle when putting it back in the router to ensure it stays together and the nano SIM doesn't split.l from the micro surround.

Just as it was looking like another call to support, I restarted the router and hey presto, turquoise light - connected!
Speeds are very sensitive to location - line of sight to the mobile tower really helps.
Thanks for the help guys!

Glad you got it working. Mine was similar, took several hours and reboots before it started working for the first time.
