Three 5G Router

Do you own the router post contract, or do you have to send it back? Just trying to weigh up cost wise, if i should just buy a router or go through 3 then keep

5g routers you have to hand back when the contract ends.

This. Despite the hundreds of them you'll see on eBay, three are very clear that their 5G modems do not belong to the customer. Having said that, i'd be surprised if they're actually enforcing this. The worst part about all of this, is technically, three could just block the IMEI and permanently brick those modems.

It's why I never took the chance and just paid for the units outright myself from Amazon/other suppliers.

They will also be locked to three, and some firmware features removed.

from the Contract.

"Equipment
where we have provided 5G equipment this equipment is not owned by you and is loaned to you for the duration of your taking our services the 5g equipment is supplied to you at no cost and remains the property of Three at all times when you stop taking our services you must return the 5g equipment. If you do not return the 5G equipment within 28 days of cancelling your contract we will charge you a non-return charge".

I'm curious as to what that non-return charge would amount to. The bids reached on ebay for these devices might make it worthwhile to cough up and then sell it. Not that I would condone such action of course.

Give us money, then give us the goods too. Brilliant. If they ever decide to go after those people, there's gonna be a lot of people with surprise pikachu faces. But yeah I reckon they'll probably not bother. We shall see.

I was tempted by the locked units on eBay, but I'm happy to have a retail one I can use with any network.

I purchased a Huawei 5g router from CEX locked to 3 network, does this mean the router is not mine even though CEX have my money?

Also on another subject it is locked to 3 and thought under Ofcom Regulations manufactures was no longer by law able to lock their devices?

Any help appreciated as still within my 14 days Money back with CEX

The router is definitely yours but the lock is a bit of a pain, I didn't realise they were network locked, presume you've tested to determine for sure.

The Huawei is probably quite old so may have been locked to Three before the Ofcom regulations came in. There's likely an option to contact Three to get it unlocked but you might struggle when trying to match customer details to the owner of the device

I'm really unsure about the whole buying an ex-under-contract modem from CeX. Three has stated that on some contracts the modem is not your property. I've not seen three actually try to reclaim any though. This is what puts me off getting a modem from CeX even though you can pick up the ZTEs for about £140 which I think is a bargain.

You can get an unlock code for the modem, places like eBay have them.

They do charge for them if they’re not returned probably why they don’t chase them.

They probably won't be able to track you down if you bought it from CEX and disabling you remotely seems unlikely as well.

I would have thought remote disabling would be super easy for them. Given they've got the IMEI number of every device they've shipped. They can quite easily ban the IMEI. The question is would they go that far? I don't think so, but I don't know.

I think they would only charge for it despite still asking for it back. they can't be that desparate can they?

Waking up an old thread, just picked up a sealed "new" Zyxel NR5103E from an ebay seller, who sold many Three branded 5G routers. Should I be worried?
No proof of purchase is coming with the goods...

I got all 5 of mine from Ebay and they were all unopened, that was over 2 years ago, so I don't think you should be duly worried about anything GTom.

They are all still working just fine too.

If it goes faulty it'll be the eBay seller you'll have to deal with though.
