Three 5G- very low speed as of late.

I've been having terrible connection speed for a few weeks now and Three haven't been helpful.

I'm not sure what's been happening... when I go to Network Status checker there's no issue reported.
I used to have 100Mbps+ in download speed but now I can barely reach 50Mpbs

Does anyone else experiencing low speed and unreliable connection?

Is the Cell ID the same when good and bad throughput are measured?
Hey, how can I check the Cell ID?
Found out in my hub setting where it is, I'm gonna need to monitor it but it seems like I don't even have a 5g connection?

Been talking to Three customer service agent and turns out they've been having issues with their network:

There's some congestion on the local mast but the great news is, we're upgrading our network to bring you improved speeds and coverage as part of The Big Network Build.
This should be done by Monday 18-Sep-2023

Yet it took me 40min with the agent before she came up with this, also the network service checker couldn't be more useless.

4G SINR 6 dB isn't great so I'd try a few different positions/locations first.

Unlikely to find congestion all day long, mostly work hours and evening streaming time. Early and late tests should give indication of what can be expected from that tower and Cell.

Yeah I'm in Kennington area London. And yes for a few weeks have had a huge drop from around a consistent 250-300 Mb to anything ranging between 15-90 Mb. When I go check Three's Network Status Checker https://www.three.co.uk/support/network_and_coverage/network_support I always get the same generic message. My contract with Three was up and was offered new deal with new router. I will take it and see if there is any improvement, (I doubt it) but if not I might cancel it. But I can't see a good alternative. Unbelievably, I can't get fibre, yet

yeah, our Three 5G connection has been a bit weird recently. Speeds are great early in the day (usually 500+ down) and they're still decent during peak hours (150+ down). But it doesn't seem stable/consistent during peak hours (some days we can't stream without buffering).

What I find interesting and a bit strange (maybe this is an issue on my end) is the way the download speed jumps around during a speed test.

speedtest (video)

It's almost like it hits a wall and then gradually grinds to the max, but a few months ago it would hit the max almost immediately.

So yeah, sim only deals are throttled when Three's network is busy. I don't know if this is news to anyone here, but it's news to me :(

We still can't stream without buffing on the evening or late at night.

I used to get 600-700mbit.

Now i'm lucky if I get 100. I'm not going to be renewing. Same mast, same locked bands, bandwidth has dropped significantly. I guess it could be contention but I don't know. I went to a mast i've seen gigabit on and I saw 250mbit on that one too.

Oh congestion for sure, but to me this is more or less a speed cap if some sims are throttled but not others. It should be made more clear IMO
It’s not throttling, it’s congestion.

Again, don’t confuse the two.

Broadband sims may run on their own bandwidth, which again isn’t throttling or capping speeds. I doubt this is the case and can imagine broadband users are likely having the same issue.

Your area is busy, there isn’t enough room for everyone, therefore everyone has a tiny bit of what is available which causes poor service.

Three's support more or less said I would not be having these issues with a broadband package? which to me, is more or less throttling if broadband sims are prioritised over mobile sims during peak hours?

I guess I will continue to confuse the two, oh well :)

EDIT - I do get what you mean though. This would not be an issue if Three's network was less congested in my area

I personally see that as a sales pitch, and you’d be back making the same complaints in a few days time, and that colleague getting the commission.

I for one have the same terrible 3 network experience in the broadband SIM I had as on my phone SIM, their is 0 difference, three's support staff often talk out of their behinds.

I just checked and it was already on 3internet, but thanks :)

Hopefully Scancom can do something about it because their ad said no speed caps and like, this is more or less a speed cap :(
I am not sure about that and would not put too much value on Three's customer support.

Some of the three CS talk rubbish (seen it on other networks too).. Once when i was getting utterly pants three signal with my mu5001, i was repeatedly told i needed a three business data sim .. There is absolutely no difference between a 3 data sim and a normal phone sim in regards to speeds, the only difference could be how much you can use in GB.

As others have said if your speed has gone down its likely that mast you are connected is over subbed and what bands you are connecting too. Because i couldn't see the bands i was connecting to earlier this year i didn't realise that the most prominent band around my house is b20..... which meant 5mbits download and up to 2mbits upload .. or even lower when its saturated ..
