Three Concerns?

Not sure what I'm supposed to be clearing up?!
B3 is on all 3 sites due to it being the base band? or am I wrong?

(by base I mean like O2 and Vodafone use B20 as their minimum sort of thing, I could be using the wrong word)

3 have quite a few B20 only sites near me, often taked onto 3G cells as a fast upgrade with no additional backhaul needed i think

I swear those things are cursed, they turn up when you don't need them and you can never find one when you need it 🙄
Yeah and the paper clips you have are too big.

I went to the Waitrose car park again today. And I did lots of tests. I tested 1p mobile, Lebera, Voxi, Tesco Mobile and Smarty.
Straight off the bat Tesco Mobile failed as it showed full bars but refused to run a speed test in speedtest.net.

1P Mobile wasn't overlay impressive, compared to the others. And Lebera Mobile was NOT as fast as Voxi.

Out of the sims I tested first place was Voxi followed by Smarty, it seemed Voxi had better download speeds whilst Smarty had better pings and upload speeds.
I'll test further between Smarty and Voxi. But for my area it does seem Voxi is the faster signal. And then it's a conundrum, stay with Smarty or move to Voxi, but 3 will be switching off the 4G and may end up outperforming Voxi. I'm in North Dorset so don't hold my hopes for 5G getting to me soon, and then it's a case of who is more likely to provide it, Voxi or Smarty. But that's in the future.

Here are my screenshots of the best speeds from my tests for 1p Mobile, Voxi and Smarty, I haven't posted the Lebera ones as I can't remember which one's they were but they gave a speed of around 60 to 70mbps.

When Three launched 4G it was on Band 20 only.... Band 3 was added to network after a deal with EE was reached.
That's not right. Three launched 4G at the end of 2013, by which point they'd already got some of EE's 1800 MHz spectrum. They didn't add 800 MHz until a couple of years later when they launched their 'Supervoice' VoLTE.

Down here in rural Devon there are still quite a number of Three B20 only sites.
However I am beginning to see B28 being added over the last few weeks.

What type of implementation is being deployed on B28 and what throughput are you getting? Is it being deployed with CA with B20?

My memory is quite different. It was B3 10mhz was their initial LTE config, then EE gave them an extra 5Mhz slice for a reason I don’t recall.

B20 was launched in 2015/16 if I recall to become the first U.K. mobile network to launch VoLTE. I remember the frustration of needing to have a Three configured device in order to use it. I recall it not working very well at all to the point where I wrote a letter to Three’s executive office in Glasgow to air my disgust in how awful it’s implementation was.

I recall being on a voice call on 4G and the handover to 3G took place during the call. When this happened I remember the call didn’t quite drop but instead all I heard was loud garbled noise.

I also remember there used to be a horrendous bug on Threes network where if you started a data stream on 3G and moved over to an area where there is 4G the 4G handover would not take place until the data stream on 3G had stopped. I remember being with O2 for a year and this not happening.

Interesting experiences, I cancelled all sims bar the Voxi and my main Smarty ones for now.
For me I had the following experiences.

Lebara I did in the app, but the app is confusing and seems full of ads!
Tesco Mobile I contacted by chat to check auto renew was off, it was easy and painless and friendly.
I had to contact 1P Mobile via chat to cancel the contract, they were pretty short and abrupt with no freindly approach, short and sweet too and couldn’t wait to get off the chat it seemed.

Just what I found if anyones interested.

The mast I connect to with my Router hasn't been enabled with B28 yet.
My own personal phone doesn't support B28 but my new dual sim work phone does so i put in an old 3 PAYG sim just for signal testing. No speed tests because it's out of credit!
With the aid of cellmapper I've located four masts which have B28 enabled. Two were only B20 previously, one was B3& B20 and one appears to be completely new. All have B1.
(I would assume they have B32 too)
For reference the eNB numbers are:
3641
50731
5209
11971

The mast i connect to with my Huawei B818 has cut it's power on B3 and B1 😡
Two weeks ago it went offline completely on all bands for a day, when it came back online it just wasn't the same again!
B3 was previously RSRP -99dB now its -107dB
SINR is now -4dB , previously it was +4dB.
B20 seems unaffected.
Download speeds have dropped from over 100 Mbps to under 60Mbps.(CA with B32)
Upload on B3 is now slower than B20!
I recall reading on this forum that other members have also experienced the same?
Why would Three do this?

“Why would Three do this?”

It may be related to the installation of another mast - which would allow for a reduction in power levels so users connect to the nearest cell.

I see that a town near me, about 12 miles away, has 3 5G coverage, I’ll try and pop there sometime to test my 4G out, see what difference it makes. It’s a shame the town is an absolute nightmare with traffic,Vodafone state thru have 5G planned for the same town with an estimate of 3 months. Now if 3 can just push that 5G 12 miles in my direction lol. Their is a Tesco in the town with a multi storey car park, looking at the tracker it’s in a strong signal area.

Yes that thought had occurred to me and could well be correct given the upgrade work Three are doing to some masts .
Unfortunately this particular mast is the only decent B3 one I can connect to for my home broadband.
