Three Huawei Cpe Pro 2 - 5G dropouts

Hi all,

Recently bought a Cpe Pro 2 from CEX, been having issues with 5G signal dropping out. Can sometimes be fine for quite a few hours or switch off within minutes.

I've tried the usual stuff, switching APN (three.co.uk and 3internet) using IP4 only. Running firmware version 11.0.2.11

Tried getting a replacement sim, 5G works fine on my S22 ultra with no dropouts (albeit not full 4 bars of signal usually 2-3)

I've attached some signal readings from the hub, would the RSRP being around -99 / -100 be enough to drop the 5G connection this often?

Potentially looking to take it back and exchange it for the ZTE MC801a as that has the built in antenna I can utilise.

Thanks

When it does so I suggest you try doing a speed test, or any download that puts a load on the connection. If it then immediately reverts to 5G then it *may* actually be working correctly.

Tried doing a speed test and still stays on 4G connection. The only way to get it back onto 5G is to switch the APN between the standard and IPv4 profile I created.

Would this suggest an issue with hub? I did wonder if when it went to "idle" it would turn off 5G, but doesn't ever seem to come back on, even when doing a large file download on pc.

Sounds like a fault rather than a "feature". Your signal is a bit on the low side but mine isn't much better and I don't get that problem.

That was my gut feeling too, going to exchange it tomorrow hopefully for a ZTE MC801a, although I have seen they are having a few issues too. But only thing left I can try!

Thanks for the advice, I'll report back if I can get it exchanged and if it sorts it.

My MC801A is a Sotel unit version B09 with a separate Three data only sim. It will sometimes drop from 5G to 4G or 4G+ but put it under load and it immediately flips back to 5G. Signal strength is typically around -97db +/- 3db
Good luck.

Well I've got the ZTE hub through today, and after locking the 5G to N78 I'm now seeing much better results! No 5G dropouts so far, hopefully was just down to the Huawei hub being faulty.

When the signal drops, does it revert to 4g or do you lose internet completely?
Mine drops out completely or says Internet connection unstable. It could be triggered by drops of 5G drops as light on router goes off every few minutes.4G light is consistently on.

Using CPE PRO 2 and Three Business sim. Placement is showing as excellent. I’ve taken off the TP link mesh (X55) and done factory reset. No difference. Speeds 350mbps download when working.

The firmware doesn’t update. It just says time out. Could that be an issue?

It’s making WFH impossible as Internet goes down regularly onto v poor or no signal.

what's a better more stable 5G Modem & Router though? I've a NR5103E and it's now dropping connections and needs a reboot.
