Three interfering with SSL connections again

It appears that Three are messing around and blocking sites by interfering with the SSL handshake/connection, making them throw messages such as:

Secure Connection Failed

An error occurred during a connection to <URL removed due to maybe breaching forum rules on 3rd party URLs>. Peer received a valid certificate, but access was denied.

Error code: SSL_ERROR_ACCESS_DENIED_ALERT

Anyone else seeing this? Started about Thursday or Friday.

Verified sites are working via Firefox using Proton VPN (US Server) and also on TOR

After quite a bit of investigation and talking to Three it turns out that they enabled the adult filter on my account for absolutely no reason.

I remember a few years ago the Three adult filter used to auto renew, you had to keep calling them up to turn it off again, it was very frustrating.

Maybe they've brought back that feature clivejo. :giggle:

Wish they would tell you instead of interfering with SSL connections. Amount of time I've wasted trying to figure this out and when I finally did manage to speak to someone at Three, I was sent an SMS saying "Hi there, We've turned ON access to adult content on your account."

Why couldn't they send a text to tell me it was switched it OFF last week?!

I don't even understand what exactly they are blocking either! I could access sites which were quite clearly adult in nature, but not others which I wouldn't class as being adult in nature! Hence why it took me so long to twig on what had happened! I also handle all DNS via Adguard which does a better job filtering on my network and resolves via DoH

Had it on my scancom EE sim last week but they turned it off when I queried the issue.

If it’s scancom just email them, they replied within a few hours.

I've got a 25GB, 500GB and unlimited for the last couple of months but once I'd turned off the content filter they have been fine since and not switched back.

I've seen the SSL issue coming and going - problematic most of last week, then seemed to fix itself towards the end of the week. Still OK today. The content filter is turned off. I tried turning it on and off on the web page (got confirmation texts for each change) a couple of weeks ago when I was having SSL problems - made no difference.

Are the sites it is block actually adult in nature? Feels like their filters are going haywire with some of the sites they are blocking!

It could be down to artificial intelligence, if they're using that for it which no doubt they are.

I get this sometimes when I swap my SIM between my phone and my router. If the SIM isn't in the router perfectly then Adult Content Filter gets enabled. I usually notice it as I will be unable to access Internet Archive.

I don't use credit cards, so I can't switch this off in the app. Instead I have to do a chat to resolve this and it takes ages. So, I've learned to put the SIM in absolutely correctly every time!

The SIM card is in a permanently connected router via a UPS. Only reboots when I tell it to or to do a software upgrade. I removed it when I started the contract about 4 years ago and it's only recently it's suddenly started to enable itself for no reason.

Yes, it's blocking sites I would not consider "adult content" code/image/information sharing sites.
