Three Mast - 8 months and counting.

I've been staring at this for 8 months now - it's really quite frustrating. Anyone any thoughts on how long it's likely to be before it's actually switched on? Thank you

That doesn’t look like a Three POW to me. Could be wrong but I think it might be for VF.

Yeah I think it is a Three PoW, purely by the handle looking thing on the side

My local PoW has that, I assume it would be for microwave installations?

Do agree that it does look very similar to my local VF mast though except there's a shroud on it (is that the right word?)

Had no idea the phase 9 poles looked so different. Certainly not come across any round this part of the world.

Learn something new everyday.

Not sure what a phase 9 even looks like but I noticed the handle, that's all.

Could still be Vodafone but idk

This is an example of one that's probably a phase 8 (not sure though) which has the handle

The one next to where I am doesn't have a handle, but looks identical (aside from a difference in colour)

Edit: it was turned on and sorted out pretty quickly, believe it was the same day the installation happened in 2022.

It's a phase 8 I believe, so the handle could indicate phase 9? - although it could also be phase 8. Not sure what significance the handle has.

All 5 phase 8 PoW's near me have the microwave link bracket, but only one has a microwave link that they took from a removed mast next to it.
Just thought you'd like to know that useless information. :giggle:

They didn't even use the bracket.

Thanks everybody, I'm going to take the answer as "anytime"... :)

It's def a Three 5g mast as I saw the planning permission on the council's website.
Yes it's a 'how long is a piece of string?' question I think sja0001, the one above (Kilmarnock) has been like that for ages, no 5G antennas fitted, not sure why they don't just complete it. 🤷‍♂️

Some complete installations in Glasgow took 2 years before they went live.

Hopefully you won't have to wait that long though.🤞

I don't know if they do it based on the fact of what speed an area can get, maximum here without mobile is upwards of 80 still due to no fttp either by virgin, nexfibre or OR. I guess OFNL would count too although they're not in this direct area.

Businesses often have access to better infrastructure when individuals may not, those microwaves usually are used in extreme rural situations afaik (although it is odd that some towns have them as well)

I think phase 7 is the one with 2 standard and 2 mimos stacked but because of nimbys they made phase 8 that has one standard and one mimo on top then now phase 9 which looks like they covered the standard antennas and put mimos at the bottom like cornerstone did

My nearest 3 monopole has been up for well over a year and is still not online. It had its 5G antennas added a couple of months ago and finally had a fibre link connected last week by Openreach.
It's phase 9 and about 300m away. I'm not overly bothered as there's a phase 8 about 600m away in the opposite direction and I get pretty good 5G performance from that.
