Three mobile broadband

thought peeps might be interested in knowing this...

well today after much thought l finally went the way of a three mobile broadband contract, generally l dislike mobile net however to save the hassle of getting vouchers and the significantly decreased rate they are doing at the moment (admittedly with long contract).

they are doing two offers which are only until may (according to the website) at the following price (for the contact l signed up to):

15GB @ £30 per month for 18month contract
15GB @ £15 per month for 24month contact

l myself went with the £15 as it doubled what l usually bought as a voucher at £25 a month, yet it will cut my expenditure by £10 per month, however as a point of interest (the whole reason for this post)...

many will know it can be quite costly to go over the bandwidth allocation, l myself was worried but today l was told something pretty interesting, generally when ones credit is pretty good they allow one to go over their allocation and without knowing users rack up the pennies and pounds is overage cost, but the rep told me l could phone three customer services and get them to lower the credit to 0 so once you hit the allocation it would cut you off until the next payment period, so its problem solved if you are worried about going over and no overage costs which is damn useful to know (plan on calling tomorrow to arrange this just so l can be sure l wont rack up a hefty bill @ 10p a meg it would be damn costly)

in any case thought it was worth throwing this tidbit of information onto the site for others to know since it seemed worthy of a thread

I wonder if my sister knows that - she flies the Jolly Roger on the Grand Union Canal (and anywhere else that the Good Ship Lollipop finds its way to) and uses 3-mobile.

(Mind you, I expect they've set her rating to zero anyway - or perhaps minus five ;))

lol, in either case since l found out l thought it was well worth giving the heads up since l remember hearing mark talk about charges etc which were more extortionate compared to other isps, however finding a way to cap off past the usage allocation comes in useful and saves one having to check after each browse, especially in my case since l try to be extra careful.. it wont stop me checking up on what l use, just make me less worried about using more than l have paid for and ending up with extortionate fees because of an accidental overuse.

I think we mentioned in one of the Euro Roaming charge news items that Three (3) would cut you off when roaming outside of the UK, though I didn't know they could use this to cut you off when hitting your allowance threshold. If that were a fixed-line ISP people would probably be mad but in the case of excessive use charges on Mobile Broadband it's a good thing :) . Nice to know.

Any chance you could test out the latency (trace rout) of your connection to Three (3) in 3G and or HSPA mode/areas timeless? I'd like to see how they compare to the Vodafone tests we did:
