Three or YouFibre...

Stageshoot

Pro Member
Been with Three for our Broadband for a few years now since dumping Virgin Media.

Three have provided solid 4g now 5g broadband

We are getting a stable 700 down 100 up service from the local 5G mast,

But the STL Chipmunks have been up our local poles over the past few weeks to install Fibre Boxes, and YouFibre are now offering us 1000 down 1000 up for £30 a month on a 2 year contract

With Three we are now paying £19 a month and are at the end of our contract..

While I love the Three service that 1000 up is like a gleaming gem... What do you think anyone used them is it worth the jump from a reliable Three 5G Connection.

Do you really need the extra 300 megs for an extra £11 Stageshoot? 🤷‍♂️
Only you know that. 😊

Dont need the extra download but the extra 800 upload would be a big time saver for shifting 4k files to so work servers.

We currently have 2.5gbps networking around the house and office as the Mac Studios have 10gbps network but are limited by the 2.5 in the Three Router, not sure what the capabilities are that the YouFibre Router would have, dont want to be dropping back to 1Gbps

Well that's different then, if the improved upload is a big benefit to you.:)
Sounds well worth the extra pennies. (y)

Its like everything, maybe not an actual timesaver (I schedule all the uploads to happen overnight while asleep) so would actually only save me time on the odd emergency upload during the day if we need to make a modification on a file.

So maybe a more "Nice To Have" Than an Essential

May drop onto the PAYG option at £40 a month for a couple of months just to dip tow in and see how it compares to the Three service.

Go for the fiber! Lucky to have that available.

Well I called YouFibre to go on the PAYG package for a couple of months at the £40 PAYG price, but they came up with what seems like an unbeatable deal..

I explained I still had 12 months left on my Three Broadband Contract at £20 a month so didnt want to be double paying,

The Offer Was

1000up / 1000down with a fixed IP Address Normally £29.99 a month for 24 months

Reduced to

First 12 Months at £1 a month
Second 12 Months at £29.99 a month with No RPI Price Increases during the 24 Months..

Seemed too good to turn down so they are coming out first week Sept to install

Or too good to be true. How can they survive with pricing like that?

Well Reviews seem good, The prices are all down in the supplied contract, so seems OK

They're probably running on investors/VC money with an aim to grow and become established, then the real business can start.

I've just made the switch, I've gone from 700mbps 5G with Three/Smarty to Youfibre via Netomnia with fibre over the telegraph poles.

5G has been good but I've recently seen regular DNS dropouts where pages won't load for 20 seconds, and speed dropping from 800mbps down to 5-600mbps.

My 1000/1000mbps service was installed last week. It's bloody fantastic! Ping is around 2-5ms on ethernet, and of course the speed is just immense. Even with 800mbps on Three I was only getting around 500mbps actual download on the PSN when downloading games, I'm now getting 800-900mbps so basically the full speed. 1GB takes about 10 seconds to download. A 50GB games takes less than 10 minutes to download.

Do it!!!

Edit: to add, the supplied Eero router only has a gigabit ethernet port, but as the ONT in your house is the modem , you can use ANY router you like. Just needs an ethernet port from the ONT too the router. If you're getting a static IP (which you'll need if you want to connect from anything external as they use CGNAT) then you'll need to get the router registered with youfibre so it works with the the static IP.

Cheers, Yes with the 12 months at a Quid it seems a no brainer, I will try the IPV6 standard version as they say its available in our area, but if get problems going forward with our servers not connecting will nag them for the IPv4 upgrade

We have 2 clients now who insist on being supplied Preview footage to approve! in 8k HDR, So a lot of these files can be over 100gb each (10 or more at a time), so having the 1000mbps on upload as well will really help and not tie up the whole system overnight

The way I see it, 5G is only ever going to get more and more congested with more users, and resulting slower speeds and more dropouts. I'm already seeing this. I'm the first in our street with youfibre but I certainly won't be the last. Until now, the only option for fixed line broadband has been 30-40mbps download.

I'm paying £16 pm with Smarty and the new connection is £1 on for 3 months then £30 a month so not exactly a lot more.

When compared to the BT offering of £60 pm with just 110mbps upload it's great value.

For you, it's absolutely a no brainer to get the 1gbps service. You might even want to see what they can do on the 10gbps service...

Did ask but they said only offering 10gbps on business plans at mo in this area bit eye watering at £250+Vat a month

The Gigabit will be fine, yes our home network is all 10Gbps but I am not really ready to go that mad yet ;-)

Same as you we will be first in the street, and its only a nice short run from that pole to my office, so should be an easy job

The install was really good and quick, you'll get 2 engineer visits - the first to get the fibre from where it currently terminates (probably a couple of poles away) to your house, they asked me where I was going into the house and then got the fibre to the front of the house then left a loop of fibre for the 2nd engineer who comes at the appointment you make, either am or pm. 2nd engineer gets the fibre into the house, installs a splice box on the outside and the ONT on the inside.

This is my external splice box, nice and neat install.
