Three promise nationwide 5G in 12 months

I have just come off an interesting chat session with Three. I challenged them on their “we hope to have 5G available in your area soon” statement, as they can’t even provide 4G to this rural location at the moment. We now have it in writing that they will achieve nationwide 5G within 12 months!

Not even the most desperate politician promises that. It’s very disappointing that a reputable operator appears to be promoting such wild claims, or have I missed something somewhere...?

We are looking to launch our 5G network in the first 3 months of 2020, the is 6 cities going live then I will just fine out what they are
Gemma [09:44 06-12-19]
London, Manchester, Leeds, Birmingham, Cardiff and Reading

Begins Feb

We don't have a date yet for the rest of the cities
You [09:45 06-12-19]
Ok, thanks, so it’s a meaningless statement for the rest of us. I’ll go with someone else, as they all offer 4G now.

But remainder of the UK should all be on in 2020
Gemma [09:47 06-12-19]
We will have the fastest 5G network when comes, but I appreciate that not use to you are the moment
Gemma [09:47 06-12-19]
Hopefully you will come to us when we are up and running

Is that what you are told to say? I’m sorry, but I don’t believe you - it would be a remarkable achievement to get to 100% in a year!
Gemma [09:50 06-12-19]
That's what we have been told yes, that by the end of 2020 we should have the remainder of the UK up and running in 5G
You [09:52 06-12-19]
Ok thank you. I will post that on a technical forum and see what reaction I get...
Gemma [09:54 06-12-19]
No worries! Sorry I don't have any more definitive answers for you

Well that all depends on the definition of Nationwide, I would suggest it is some nebulous like 95% of houses.

They certainly aren't going to achieve total 5G coverage on their existing network by the end of 2020, it will take around 3 years+ to deliver the same level of coverage as 4G today. Even 4G won't hit geographic coverage of 95% until around the end of 2025, as per the new industry-led agreement.

remember the list of city's they said would have 5g before the end of the year? either she was lying or she has been lied to.

honestly, I live in hope that it's true. Though I can't see Three visiting every mast and installing tech to allow it to happen nationally in one year.
