So I and many others have long complained about Three's network for being extremely strange in the way it manages traffic due to their extremely high demand as well as the lack of capacity to support it all.
I personally wouldn't use it, because of these issues. However I've just switched two family members back to Three using their new 4G Cat 12 router (great offer) as a trial. It's going exceptionally well. From a few years ago where a few mbps of speed was the best, now they're getting anywhere from 60 - 200mbps at all times, including peak times.
Let's hope it stays this way. They've clearly upgraded the backhaul in a lot of places (the family members don't even live in the same city) and Cat 12 definitely helps.
The ZTE router also seems fairly reliable.
