TimeTalk - New ISP on the Block

Timetalk

Hi,

Just been looking on google to see how i can transfer from talktalk (too slow nowadays) for free and up popped a advert from a new company called TimeTalk.co.uk (thought it was talktalk at first as the ad is very clever!!)

They claim to offer broadband at £2.79 per month, so I have sent a web enquiry today and waiting to be contacted to see if they actually sell this package... I think the bandwidth limit is pretty low but I only use email and a few news websites - so it might be perfect for me.

If the deal is good might try it, cant be as bad as my current provider talktalk and IMO if a new company appears surely there internet pipe must be virtually empty and thus provide faster more stable broadband?

Anyways, thought I would let you know and maybe someone has a better idea than me if it is worth getting?

Regards

Ste

please stay away from this company ,,there have robed me blind ,,there promised free phone calls to the philippines ,,as my wife is philipino i thought great ,,there charged me full price ,,there even charged me 105 pounds for the internet use ,,the first month ,,i phoned them to complain and there promissed to credit my account ,,lies,,the next month was the same massive phone bill and charges for broadband ,,so i canceled my dd at the bank ,,,there re enstated the dd and tryed to take 174 pound this 2.79 pence deal has cost me about 450 pound ,,the robbing b,,,

Sorry to hear about your experiences trevor; who are you with now??

My ISP is Vispa, and they charge 15ppm for the Philippines (25p for mobile), my wife is Chinese and calls her parents in China, we only pay 5p/10p per minute.

If you can handle using your PC to make the phone call, that can be as little as 1ppm, or if her relatives have a PC, you can do it for free using Skype.

Dont forget Lycamobile, calls would cost you 9/14ppm

follow up, I have just been doing some background checks, and according to their own blurb Talktime have a MILLION subscribers!!

Also noticed that the glowing reviews all look eerily similar.

Wow one million :p and yet until this topic started most people on here, an ISP information site that has existed since 1999, had never even heard of them.

I do however note that they now list their postal address and T&C's in public, which means that we can list them on ISPreview.co.uk. But should we?

If their website is anything to go by I wouldnt bother Mark; it took several attempts to get the home page to load, then several more to get any of the links to work; and I cant imagine they have THAT much traffic at 6:30am!!!

It is also worth noting that Northern Cypress is about the only "country"* in Europe that doesnt have an extradition treaty with anyone, so any criminal activity can be carried out with impunity (Asil Nadier anyone (spl??)).

*And the only country that recognises them as a country is Turkey, the people who invaded Cypress and set them up in the first place!!!

It's Cyprus btw ;)

To be fair, they appear to be registered from the offices of Deloitte (accounting firm) based in Southern Cyprus.

My apologies, but then, why didnt FF15 spellcheck query me? Perhaps there is more than spelling??

Southern Cyprus/Cypress DOES have extradition laws, but still willing to bet that if you go and look, it is just a holding office, and the real people are somewhere else, I mean, who trusts Deloitte??

Hmm yes I'll leave them off the list until they register in the UK.

There is a tree of that name ;)

My first job at 16 was for a company who I later found out had everything in Cyprus for tax reasons. I turned up for work one morning to find the owners had done a runner. I personally don't trust anything that is registered that far over in the EU.

Hi Aquiss, I thought of that, but only after I had left for work :o

The reason companies like this can get away with it is because so many people are STUPID; there is ONE glowing review of them (by "Steve", on Ciao, and numerous people thanking him and praising his "review" !!!!

Timetalk switch disabled Internet for 6 months

My mum lost their Internet access for 6 months when timetalk conned her into switching from her talktalk account by "offering a better deal". She was unable to return to talktalk without having to change her phone number.

Beware!

Hello all. Some advice needed if possible. My 80 year neighbour is asking for my help. Her current ISP is TalkTalk. Shortly after coming out of hospital she was emailed by TIMETALK and "persuaded" to change providers - however she thought she was still dealing with TalkTalk. Apparently she agreed the new contact on the 11th Jan but didn't give her Direct Debit details over until 23 Jan. I contacted TalkTalk last Friday (25th Jan) who confirmed they are still providing her broadband. Will the 7 day cancellation start from the day she provided her bank details? Interestingly enough TIMETALK say in their information pack (which doesn't come through until you place an order!) that "you have seven working days cancellation time. However we have agreed that timetalk can start providing the service before the usual cancellation period ends" This surely can't be legal. Any thoughts on how I can help this lady will be most appreciated.

Many thanks for the reply Tom. I too wondered about this, but BT seem to manage that trick. I'm concerened that money will start disappearing from this lady's account but she will be left without communications including her emergency call system to the hospital.
I'll keep this updated.

You could ask Talk Talk to block any attempts to take over the line in the next 30 days, then call and cancel Time Talk by recorded delivery post; so they cannot claim they were not informed.

I would also complain to the local trading standards, although that doesnt often help stop dodgy miss-selling like this.

I talked to Timetalk in an effort to cancel the migration but they are sticking to their seven day cooling off policy. I then spoke to a gentleman at Ofcom who advised me that the migration can be cancelled any point up to the last day before the change over.
This is an Ofcoms regulation. I have now written a formal letter to TimeTalk advising them of the cancelation and that no money will be paid to them (this could be the tricky part). I've also pointed out that the the lady received an unsolicited email to her TALK TALK address - she did not contact them, and we have tried on three seperate occasions to stop the transfer. I just hope it all goes OK and the baliffs don't appear on her doorstep! I'll let you know what happens.

This type of rogue firm often threatens court action; dont be afraid if they do - or if they set a court date set. I have faced down several companies in similar situations and only one turned up on the day, and even then I WON! (Severn Trent).

No judge will go against you as long as you can show you made every effort to cancel the "hijack".

Update.
As of 20th Feb; No reply to the two recorded delivery letters sent to TimeTalk. Their service (had we not chosen to cancel it) was due to start on the 18th. but thankfully the lady is still with TalkTalk. I must add that TalkTalk have been very helpful in this situation. Hopefully this is the last she will hear from TimeTalk. If any else occurs I'll post back.
Many thanks for your suggestions.

I am monitoring a thread about TimeTalk on another forum, and it is filling up with people who have been ripped off; there are also reports that OFCOM are finally taking notice, but I wont hold my breath.

Some slightly good news, one customer took them to court and won.

Many people are reporting "SLAMMING" problems, perhaps Mark could get an expert to write an article about Slamming and sticky it somewhere??

Slamming means that a customer has been swapped from one ISP to another without the end-users consent, which is one reason why Ofcom are currently putting the final touches to a new migration system. We already have a page about this:

http://www.ispreview.co.uk/new/complain/common_isp_complaints_slamming.php

Annoyingly Ofcom keeps changing the website URLs every couple of years so I need to update the link there.. again. Arrrggghh.
