HOW LONG IT TAKES TO INSTALL BROADBAND?

I CAN ONLY DIAL FREEFONE NUMBERS(0800,0808 ETC) FROM MY PHONE.WILL I BE ABLE TO USE TISCALI BROADBAND IF PHONE LINE IS NEEDED. I HAVE BEEN SUCCESSFULLY USING DIAL UP INTERNET ON THIS LINE FOR YEARS.

THANKS FOR YOUR HELP IN ADVANCE.

CHARIKAAR

Yes you need a phone line and you do not need out going calls on your phone Time some ISPs say 7/10 days hope that helps.

Tiscali do not offer a 128k service (at least not in the UK, although it is available in parts of mainland Europe)

Within the UK, Tiscali offer broadband at:
150k (3x)
256k (5x)
512k (10x)

I’m not too sure why you can only use freephone numbers, however the proviso for Tiscali Broadband is that you have a BT line as follows:

Either:
1)A BT standard line and account, billed directly by BT
Or
2)A "Calls and Access line".
Such line are provided by BT, but billed by another operator. If you are unsure whether your line is in this category or not you should contact the operator that bills you for this line.

Both of the above are subject to not having any of the following services:

Subscriber Private Meeting
30K loop
Private Services
Red Care
Copper Wideband Servicing Sections
CWss 2 or 3 pair
Featurenet 5000 services
Private Exchange Branch Lines

Assuming you want the 150k service and are within a Tiscali Broadband area (Click here to check) and pass a satisfactory Broadband line test, you will normally be up & working within 15 working days of registering.

PS, There’s no need to shout (ie, you have Caps lock on …. turn it off)

THANKS FOR YOUR REPLIES.

I ONLY PAY £9.25 PER QUARTER THATS WHY I CAN'T MAKE OUTGOING CALLS EXCEPT FREEFONE NUMBER.sorry caps on again.

thank you:)

I'm in a similar position, being on BT Light-User. This costs just £11.28 per quarter if I don't make any calls, but 4-digit access numbers for other telephone providers are barred.

I can use freefone numbers which means AOL (0808) is OK. I'd like to move to Tiscali 3x broadband because it's the same cost - £15.99 a month - but it would have the advantage of a small increase in speed and more importantly telephone calls could get through while I'm online.

BT's small print says Light-User and In-contact subscribers can't have BT Broadband. Does this also apply to Tiscali BB?

Yes any BT Line on the Lite User scheme cannot get ADSL. It matters not who actually provides the ADSL. If its a BT line its a No

:( I did phone the lady at Tiscali and she said I could have it despite being on Light-user. I thought she was talking rubbish!

Thanks Buddy.

I should have a good in depth check on Tiscali BB before signing up.

Put a search in google for Tiscali Problems, there's loads of unhappy BB customers on Tiscali forums, unfortunately you have to be signed up with Tiscali to view them.

Web Buddy advised:

Could you please tell how you know that Web Buddy, because it’s certainly something I'm not aware of.

Are you sure about that Stephen?, or are you thinking of financial discounts not being available to Light-Users who subscribe to BT Broadband, BT/Yahoo Broadband?
ie, The following extract is taken from BTs Broadband small print:
Customers on the Light User Scheme and BT In-Contact Plus customers will not receive the Whole Bill Direct Debit or MPP reduction as they already pay a reduced rental.

It's entirely your choice if you wish to believe the Tiscali CS person is talking rubbish.

Well like I said my wife the phone line is in her name has light user with no out going calls worls out dirt cheap just get to phone freephone and net i use pipex adsl befor that dial up BT are aware

of what is on the line and how it is used as they can see at they end

Paul45:

This is in the BT Broadband FAQs section:

"Q: Which BT services are incompatible with BT Broadband?

A: BT Broadband is not available to certain lines and services, e.g. In Contact, Light User Scheme, payphone lines, lines not provided by BT and Alarm lines. Customers on any of these, or other excluded lines, can convert their line to a standard BT line (subject to any conversion and outstanding charges required on their original service)."

However, I think IP is saying he's got ADSL working using Pipex. It's a little difficult to understand as his first language appears to be Kewl!

Stephen

I still cannot find any BT FAQ reference to Light User customers being unable to have Broadband.
As previously mentioned, the only reference I can see is where BT states nil discount for Light User customers on Broadband.

Clearly there is obviously some contradiction from BT regarding Light Users & Broadband, therefore I’ve took the liberty of emailing BT Broadband and asked them directly if Light User customers can have Broadband.
I’ll post their reply as soon as I receive an answer from them.

However on the assumption you are correct, that may not necessarily mean that you cannot get TiscaIi to provide you with Broadband, as they are not totally reliant on BT.
I would therefore consider asking Tiscali to confirm once again that they can supply you (as being on a BT Light User tariff) with their Broadband product, and take it from there.

Whatever the outcome of your ability to receive a broadband product, you would do well to steer clear of tiscali.
At present, thousands of customers have either a very slow service or no service at all, the support telephone numbers go unanswered, emails go unanswered and the mail service has all but collapsed. The support number is a peak rate number and you will be directed to a call centre in Bangalore, India. The support staff there know nothing about UK ADSL and will read from a script without deviation. Ask an awkward question and they will hang up.
Funnily enough, the broadband sales number (Freephone) is answered immediately.
Sign up for a payg account to view their forum service sections; that's if you don't get bored to death waiting for the pages on their portal to load. It makes for some very depressing reading indeed.

This is without doubt the UK's worst ISP.

Yes, I've had a look in that forum and it really is wall-to-wall complaints! Everyone seems to want to get out!

Pity - it seemed a good idea, a low-cost introduction to broadband. Perhaps some other company will come up with a similar offering.

BT have now replied to my email concerning BT Broadband and light user accounts.
The email shows a comprehensive list of incompatibilities which people might find useful to know.
Light User accounts are shown as incompatible, however I don’t know if this would cause a similar incompatible problem for other ISPs.

The following products are incompatible with BT Broadband:
ISDN (all types). If you have ISDN 2, ISDN2e, Home Highway or Business Highway, we can arrange for a conversion as part of the ADSL installation. Please note that BT Broadband services are not compatible with any type of ISDN at present.
Red ABC (alarm service)
RedCare (alarm service)
Caller Display CD50 (no know problems with other types of caller display equipment).
Private circuits (analogue, KiloStream, MegaStream)
PBX Lines
Auxiliary Line
In Contact
Light User Scheme lines
Outgoing calls barred lines
Payphone lines
Temporary Lines
Low Loss Lines
Out of Area lines
DDI Lines
Meter Pulse Facility Lines
Custodial Tagging Lines
Call and Access Lines
Non-Served Premises
Support Lines
PSTN Splitlines
Telepoint
BT response 12 answering machine
Cable & wireless CWT300 Telephone and answering machine
Panasonic Easa-Phone KX-T3155
Self install using Excelsus Z420UK micro filters
