Tiscali buys Pipex

I will be moving my domains to a friends IPstag and renew through him in future, cost a little more but I know my domains are safe.

Meanwhile the fate of Pipex's remaining hosting and WiMax ventures etc. remain unclear.

So..... do those of us with domains registered with 123-reg.co.uk need to start worrying yet or not? From MarkJ's quote (from News Comments) it would appear that 123-reg may not be part of the deal.

As far as I understand it's only the broadband not the hosting that's part of this deal. I have a dedicated server with Donhost which is also owned by Pipex, so I hope that's true, the amount of work involved for me to move from Donhost would be huge.

Of all the companies that Pipex could have sold out to, it had to be Tiscali, one of the worst players in the field. Luckily, my account with Pipex expires in Sept so I'll start seriously hunting for a new isp around....NOW. Any suggestions from you good people would be appreciated.

WANTED: 2mb adsl connection, preferably uncapped but dont mind a limit (as long as its over 30Gb a month) and decent speeds for online gaming.
Not that bothered about 8Mb connection as I dont want to change my phone line but if theres an isp out there that can do it without messing my phone line up, I'd be interested.

Not a lot to ask for is it?
cheers

err 8Meg ADSL MAX shouldnt mess your phone line things only change if you move onto a LLU based network..
as for the sale, lets hope with the move they dont try to be sneaky and not inform all customers if they make the decision of "if customers stay pass the sale date you enter into a new 12month contract.." seems like something tiscali would pull.

I don't know about anyone else but im worrid about the sgtate of the ISP market. If we look back a year or two ago we had more ISP's to choose from than coffee cups on my desk (trust me it a lot), infact i remember when i originally signed up to my first ADSL contract it took weeks to look through all the deails that were on offer. Slowly but surely there all being eaten by one or two huge providers, is anyone else worrid that in say 2 or 3 years time it'll simply be a choice between BT, VM, Tiscali, Sky or CWH ?

actually it makes allot of seance in a sad kind of way especially if you look at the US ISPs altho lm only quoting conversations lve had with US friends.

Well I certainly do not want anything remotely American, I prefer sticking with the smaller more personal ISP.

Big isn't always best.

This time last year I'd have probably agreed with you Inactive, as I was thinking and eventually did move to a smaller personal company(?) (Pipex) and is UK based, but that turned out to be the worst move I could have made! I was recommended by a dear friend whois ISP it is, if only I'd read all the problems users on this forum were having before hand, I'd never have moved-I'd have stayed put with AOL.

I did laugh at the jokes made tho!

The big difference is, I did check out all of the forums and went with what I considered to be the best option for my requirements, no regrets at all.

I moved ISP's after the V21 fiasco (although i did get a good V21 service) to Pipex in Hanuary. I also swithched my phone to them as well. I have been fortunate that Pipex has given mne great service and speeds up t.7.1 or so. A wee bit concerned too about what will happen re Tiscali. Oddly s few years back i was with an ISP called LineOne and when they got taken over by Tiscali I moved to V21. Feel I'm being followed!
