Tiscali, I've had enough.

I have had tiscali for a while now, and ever since day one it has been slow.
When signed up, I was promised at least 2 megs. I was fine with that, then it came, I set it up and I immediately noticed how slow it was. I think my contract ends at the end of May. I have phoned them many times and sent them many em-mails and letters but they got nowhere. I want to know if there is a way to end my contract earlier. After, I was think of going to Be.

Oh yeah, the speeds I get are 20 kb/s download and 30 kb/s upload.

It's unlikely you could escape without having to pay at least some degree of penalty, such as the value that remains on your contracted months. However the service you appear to be receiving is clearly well below par (might help if you keep some logs of service performance) and as a result I believe you have a strong case to escape without penalty.

The first thing to do would be to contact Tiscali's Ofcom approved complaints handler, CISAS, and explain the situation. It may be worth getting Trading Standards and the Office of Fair Trading involved too.

In addition, send us a complaint and include permission for us to forward it, then come Friday we can pass it on to a higher level of Tiscali's management:

Tiscali are also members of the Internet Service Providers Association (ISPA), which should definitely be informed of the problem too. Run through these channels and get some feedback, making sure to keep logs of all the communications.

If this takes too long and you decide to cancel early then it’s best to pay any extra they ask and haggle over a refund later. Tiscali are notorious for sending in Debt Collectors, sometimes even years after a customer has left, which is best avoided no matter how unfair it may seem.

Thanks for the reply, I might as well wait it out, seeing I have waited this long. I have also heard that Tiscali are notorious for not giving you a MAC code?
