Tiscali & Stealth LLU migrations

Hello all,

I've been with freedom2surf for a few years, recently had lots of problems with disconnects, poor speed etc.
Last night I lost everything, the router doesn't attempt to sync, snr/attenuation figures are all zero. I've put a support request in.

Meantime I have been looking around to change ISP and have found out that Tiscali have moved me away from IPStream to LLU, if I want to move to another provider (in this case adsl24) I have to pay £40+vat.

F2s did not tell me I was or have been migrated
I specifically did not want to be migrated for these reasons!

If I request it will they move me back ?
If I have to leave without switching back who accepts LLU MAC codes ?
Is here anyone who accepts an LLU mac and converts back to IPStream for free ?

My exchange is to receive BT ADSL2+ (24Mb) in March, so I'd rather by IPStream than LLU.

I'm going to end a complaint to Tiscali, I guess this wont really get anywhere but I'm going to try anyway.

If Be is enabled on your exchange you could go LLU to LLU. most ISPs accept LLU migration codes but if you want it free then it comes with longer contract times normally 12months. You could try OFCOM see if they can advise you as you hadn't requested to move to LLU and we alkl knew Tiscali would do this if they had the exchange unbundled as it is cheaper to supply than BT who have put prices up.

Sadly this story is not new; very few major ISPs have actually bothered to inform their customers about moves from BT to an unbundled platform. However an unbundled platform itself doesn’t have to be evil, it’s only a problem with ISPs like Tiscali and Orange where they don’t leave themselves enough cash to improve the infrastructure. ISPs like Be (O2) and Sky Broadband tend to be better examples of how to do unbundled broadband the right way.

Regarding your router problem, one good trick to make it work again is to swap to a different Multiplexing option (usually VC or LLC) and allow your router to reboot. Tiscali's unbundled platform can work fine with VC or LLC and swapping between them will often resolve the connection problem, which a general router reboot sometimes won’t.

As for line stability, well if you have a BT box then I’d consider installing a filtered faceplate and also make sure you have Microfilters (Splitters) installed on every phone line box in your house.
