Toob v Openreach

Toob have enjoyed a head start in many areas, especially Southampton which they have near universal coverage now.
Now Openreach has announced Southampton in their build plans, presumably by 2026, it will be interesting to see how Toob react.
Personally I am not a fan of the Openreach offering, but they have the brand/marketing and multiple ISP’s behind them to sweep up those on legacy DSL connections, most of these people won’t care that Openreach uses GPON with a poor upload speed, they will focus on download which is available up to 1.8GBs now.

Will we see Toob push a faster package to compete and stay ahead? XGS-PON is more than capable of delivering a 2.5/2.5Gbe service.

Openreach also announced Farnborough last week, where Toob has been fairly successful I gather. (Farnborough also has Virgin Media, legacy coax area).

Sadly those of us in flats/MDUs are stuck with uncooperative landlords whom won't respond asking for wayleave permission for Toob. :(

This is exactly the situation my brother is in. He lives round the road from me in a block of flats that's surrounded by Toob (and Openreach fttp) but because the management company are refusing anyone access he's stuck with 10mb ADSL. Perversely the flat next door has FTTC (the BT cab has a FTTC twin where his flat doesnt) AND Toob (different management company).

I'm assuming he's written to them, for a cost reduction as "other flats" in the same area for the same money have better access to utilities?

The main issue usually comes down to affordable/compatible CPE as one.
But as an advocate for multi-gigabit speeds then I do hope so. I can see ~2Gb packages becoming more popular over the next 18 months

@Gunny think you're self lucky i'm still waiting for toob to be activated in my area (Sholing), cabinet was put up a month ago along with trunking in front of house and still waiting.
